On top of everything else this useless bureaucracy wants to enact a 10 knot speed limit on boats 35' or larger all under the ruse that it will be good for the environment by saving gas, reduce noise pollution for sealife and protect whales. The speed limit would go out 60 miles! This will crush the eastern seaboard commercial fishery! And of course this will come with an additional ask to grow the government even more because they'll need to spend billions of tax dollars to hire more police/coast gaurd etc to enforce such nonsense. www.fisheries.noaa.gov/actio...kx4Y_cuOe18WHI

That is freaking nuts. The commercial tuna guys up my way will get crushed. So much for getting freshly caught fish back to the dock in a timely manner. How's about working on inflation or something more important?! Insane...

I couldn’t get to the link you posted, so I looked for the article or something like it and sure enough it’s there. However the map was a bit different but IMO have the same effect. Here we’ve had that regulation for years for large ships, so this just makes a considerable lowering of size. Shame is I’ve been out and seen several violations by foreign shipping and the US Navy.. I don’t know how the CG is going to monitor and manage such large areas and I don’t know if those regs apply to our navy. Adding smaller vessels will just add to the monitoring and management. media.fisheries.noaa.gov/dam-migration-miss/md_YgjtXNh4U881.jpg?1524770543hope that link will get you to proposed map…

It looks like our out of control government and their regulatory agency NOAA is amending their proposal and reducing the vessel size down from 65' to 35' and increasing the slow zone period up to 7 months! This effects most of the eastern seaboard.

Can you imagine the impact just around Virginia Beach? Our November thru May fishing is more limited, but I've seen lots of boats greater than 35' including Virginia Beach's whale watching boats out then and they are either going as fast as they can, or stopped to watch. North Carolina south gets winter tuna fishing with lots boats over 35'. My son-in-law used to fish in NC almost every weekend on a 65' and I just can't imagine him going 10 knots on his way out and back. It would change an overnight trip to a whole weekend or more.
Don't get me wrong, I love watching the wildlife when out fishing or boating with the family. I just don't know how 35' got picked or the dates. I've never seen whales around the entrance to Chesapeake Bay from April on. And, I'd also like to know what they're going to do about the Navy boats. They regularly exceed the existing speed limits for ships when heading in or out. I occasionally see a commercial ship that appears to be going too fast on their approach to the Chesapeake Bay and I never hear about any getting fined for it. How in the world will they enforce the limits on all the boats over 35' for 100 miles out if they can't do it now on commercial carriers in the channels?

It's amazing how little people are aware of what our government is up to, until it effects them.
