Photo this morning shows my Sailfish still on the lift and looking pretty good. Many of my neighbors aren't in such great shape. Boats that were on lifts are all over the place. No power water or sewer in Cape Coral and most of the surrounding areas. Many people have lost everything so right now I feel very blessed.
Update: Yesterday we drove back to Cape Coral to check on things at the condo and to clean out the fridge before the stink sets in. Disaster area, no power or water and minimal cell coverage. A lot of trees down or damaged, screen cages are mostly all gone, roofs have damage, street lights hanging down to car level so you have to swerve around them. But we are very lucky...I lost my car port( I think it is shown in the photo of the Formula boat, kind of wrapped around the aft end of the boat), but otherwise no significant damage to MY stuff. The building I live in had minor soffit damage but roof and windows are OK, and the condo complex had damage to common area buildings, pool, docks, etc. so it will take plenty to get the place back to running. Thankfully my boat is fine which is truly unbelievable as most of the boats there seem to be off their lifts, drifted into the mangroves or up on top of each other and on land or nearby docks. Even the Sailfish canvas covers, which I left on, were intact and present although the bow cover was mostly unsnapped. Everything is covered with debris but is in good shape. It never moved from the lift--I had every line, fender, and 2 anchors out. Canvas covers were on and set as tight as I could while still snapping all snaps. I had tow strapped and chained the lift to the pilings after moving the boat as high as I could, well beyond the normal upper stop point. It worked, plus I was very lucky.
