Nice. It's cold up here and the boat is wrapped. We went for tog at the beginning of the year. No luck. Next week, we're going to try for some perch. We plan to be in the keys in April, so I'm excited to try the fishing there.

nickbhw are you coming down with the Sailfish or renting/chartering when you get to the keys?

I am flying down and doing charters. I have one booked at the moment, and researching other ways to get the line wet.

Post a note about your experience, who you went with etc. as well as your success on the fish please! We get down to Key West about 1x per year since it easy to do on a ferry out of Fort Myers for me; I want to cruise my boat down and it shouldn't be a bad trip if I pick my days and as long as gas prices aren't prohibitive.

Will do. Right now, I'm going out with Capt Bruce Andersen of Captain Easy Charters in Islamorada. captaineasycharters.com/This is a family trip, so I doubt I'll be able to get too far out. Right now, we are doing a tarpon trip since it will be calmer water.

IF you need a charter out of Marathon, I would highly recommend sea squared charters, really quality guys and put me on fish, got my first tarpon with them. If you want to grab a beer in Key largo give me a heads up!

I would enjoy that. Unfortunately, I don't think we are spending a whole lot of time in Key Largo. We are trying to see Christ of the Abyss on the way through, though. Have you dived there?

I did a day course, instruction in the morning and dove at molasses reef in te afternoon, it was great. If you dive you should definitely do it, there are some great wrecks and reefs.

I was thinking about starting the certification here and finishing when we get there. It's too cold for open water in NJ, but I don't want to take away from other stuff (fishing) when we get there. We might just do snorkeling instead.

If you do want to do any diving or snorkeling I'd try rainbow reef dive center, they have 6 or 7 boats out twice a day, real pro organization.

Great. Thanks! It's nice to have first hand referrals. It's difficult to judge from the websites and I'm not big on online review sites.
