Anyone ever put an engine bracket on a Sailfish? Watching Project Dreamboat I always ponder the idea of adding a bracket and extend the transom removing the live well/splash well etc which would add another foot of space in the aft. Our hulls are Potter Hulls and you see a ton of Seacraft owners closing in their transom and adding the bracket. I think it would make my 2660 into a 2860 at a marginal investment. However, I haven’t seen anyone do this which makes me think there is a performance or structural issue preventing such a modification. Interested in everyone’s thought.

Ive considered jackplates but the thought of modifying the euro transome and installing a bracket never crossed my mind. I'd imagine to do it right so it looks right and not a Frankenstein boat it would be super costly. Then I'd have to wonder how it might effect the balance and ride. I'd love to follow that project! Post lots of pics!

For the cost I think I'd rather sell the boat and spend the difference on a larger boat. At resale time a modified boat may be a dog to get rid of even if its done fairly well. I know I would never want to buy an unknown one-of for fear of how it would hold up over time. Stringers and transom are such an integral part of the boat's strength that messing with either is a scary thought to me. I envision a day in heavy seas that my engines just fall off the back of the boat (oh no!) or something like that!

Certainly is a job for a professional boat builder. But, since they’ve done it on so many Seacraft I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a Sailfish.
