My house is raised and the lower portion is enclosed. The pilings on the inside are starting to splinter. The ones on the dock are pretty smooth. My first thought was to take a hand held sander to them, but I didn't know if there were better options. Any advise?

Maybe seal them with something to stop anymore splintering.

I didn't think of that. I will have to look into it. I don't know why the ones outside would be smoother than the ones 'inside.' They aren't bad at all. But, I don't want the kids to walk by and get scratched, especially OPK*

I don't have any indoor pilings, but outdoors I have 3 supporting a second floor deck, they are pressure treated. I painted them black with a benjamin moore exterior paint, mostly to make them less visible. If they are more than a year old you might try painting them, if less than a year old I'd wait for them to dry out more.

I bet that looks nice. Do you have a picture of them? I might want to do that.

I don't have any pictures and I won't be back there for a few months. It does look nice and it helps them "disappear" when you are looking around the yard.
