Time to replace them. I checked 4 different stores today for group 27 batteries. Did people stop buying them, nothing newer than 3/3 2022. They sat on the shelf for over a year. Then the sales bullshit it don't matter, ya right. I'm just going to wait until newer stock shows up..

Strange. I've been using Interstate batteries for years and never had aged batteries in the shop. Replaced them last spring and I got their last one.

Find another outlet. Even Walmart or some other place that sells a lot of car batteries that may also carry marine batteries. Good to go with the fresh ones, I have personally toured the factory where lead acid batteries are made by Johnson Controls and took an engineering level class on lead acid technology, and age DOES matter. I'd also encourage you to consider AGM batteries...pricey in the short run but I am running them now and am hoping to get more years out of them than the basic lead acid deep cycle/starting batteries. I always only got 2-3 years out of those on my boat up north, and I'm hoping that my purchase last year of 5 AGMs will pay off in the long run and so far so good with a year on them.

The manufacturer will run a batch of different size batteries at a time. They usually will run marine batteries during the winter for spring release. At least this is how they would do it in the past. Most stores won’t order new batteries until the old stock is sold but some will order for customers if you ask.

I picked up new batteries from Penn Manufacturing at their factory/warehouse right near me. Best price I could find anywhere by quite a bit for what I consider good batteries (Deka Marine). I called and asked if they sell D2C and they did.

So I decided on these I had to rework the area to accommodate such a big battery. Manufacturers date 3/2023. Through work I got both for $300

Through work I got both for $300 Holy smokes were you able to fit 3 of those? Or do you have 2 31 and your 3rd battery is a 27? No way I could fit 3 in my space as far as I can tell, 3 group 27 barely fit and they are a bitch to get out of that tight compartment.

Chris the area for batteries is behind the foot locker in console effing nightmare to work on. It's 14"X36" + or - on length. But battery trays are all for smaller batteries. The 2 large trays from Sailfish are impossible to remove. So I made trays to fill that space and slid to both sides. I only run two batteries but now have space for 4.

So when do you get in the water so you can report on the status of the low oil pressure alarm? Dying to know if batteries or air bubble resolved and that all is ok!

I turned the key on yesterday it didn't show any alarm. If the rain holds off today I'll change spark plugs then start both motors again.

I posted in an older thread but wanted to ask - most of the discussion here has been regarding Deep Cycle batteries, as far as I see.... I have three on board - one for each engine, and one for house. Do I want just starting batteries for the engines? Or are deep cycles strong enough nowadays?
THanks
Stu

Deep cycle batteries are made with thicker lead plates which aren't as good at delivering high surge current like you use when starting, but stand up better to deep discharges. Starting batteries have thinner plates and don't do well when deeply discharged multiple times, but can more easily deliver high current for a short time like when starting. There are batteries which are classified as starting/deep cycle and as long as your cold cranking amperage rating meets or exceeds your starting battery being replaced should be good as a compromise battery suitable for both starting and multiple cycles of deeper discharging. Combo batteries are good as long as you have the CCA specs met.
