Thanks Jerryk - I have a separate "House" battery that I'll put a deep cycle on but since these are just engines, I'll stick with starting batteries.
Sometimes I feel like the stars are just against me. I had to invent a hoist from a ratchet strap just to get the old ones out (hooked from the T-Top cross member above the bathroom door down to the batteries in the compartment. Was actually a little proud of myself. Could *barely* get one out, and it looks like I'll have to remove the hatch cover for the battery compartment to get the other one out. Turns out the long dimension on existing (very old) batteries is 12 inches even. New battery dimensions for series 27 *all* seem to be 12-3/4 inches. I don't know that I have 3/4 inches to give!!
More to come. Busy week and I'm stealing every minute to get down and address this... plus I'm out of town for the weekend...
thanks again

Good luck! I know when I replaced the three aft batteries in my 275 DC I too had to invent a way to move the batteries around to get them out. Had to tilt the port side battery at a 45 degree angle (and hold it there using a dockline as my hoist) to make room to manuever the house battery out, then I could get the starboard battery out, and finally got the port battery out. Reverse it all to reinstall new batteries, not fun but doable once I figured out a method.
You should be fine with deep cycle house battery paired with starting engine batteries. The important thing is to match them for charging purposes using the same technology for each one since they are tied to the same charging source, so lead acid deep cycle and lead acid starting batteries should be fine. If you were to mix in a house battery that is Lithium with starting lead acid batteries, then you'd create a problem.

Yup - I went with all three Interstate Lead Acid Batteries (2 Starting + 1 Deep Cycle). Was thinking of stretching more out of the Deep Cycle, but I'm replacing all three so I won't have to deal with this for the longest time possible. No Lithium for me.... I'm a volunteer firefighter and not crazy about Lithium and charging.... 8^o
