Never fished the Gulf. From where I am the Gulf Stream waters are about 80 miles out and the bottom goes from 120' to 1800', then 3000+' in fairly short order. At the 1800' drop there are usually pot buoys where I've caught big Mahi. We also get large grass (seaweed) mats that attract school size Mahi and other fish and those mats occur in the shallower water anywhere from 30 miles out to the Gulf Stream. Tried to catch Tuna around them, but the Tuna seem to stay near the canyon walls at the 1800' drop off, or near temperature breaks. Doesn't the Gulf have similar grass mats and pot buoys that attract fish naturally? We have the same grass you have. We catch mahi and wahoo on it but not in the numbers you guys do. We don’t have any pots in deep water. The ones we have are in about 20-30 feet. We have the oil rigs and drill ships. That what I fish.

However, the same people authorized a wind generator farm. Only 2 are up so far (over 100 planned) and last time I tried to fish in the area I was almost run over by their 'protection' ship. It's about 25 miles off the coast, but only in about 30' of water so it's not going to be helpful with pelagics anyway. I'm sure once they start new construction the entire area will be 'off limits' so it will be years before we get to find out if it has any effect on fishing.
