Got hired to run a 38 express on an overnight trip last week. Owner wanted to sword fish and tuna fish. Full moon had the bite off. I have never caught swords on a full moon. We managed 1 yellowfin around 50 pounds and a dozen black fin. We did see a big sword feeding on top the next morning but couldn’t get it to bite.

Sounds like a nice time. Be really happy if I get out to fish tuna this year.

I’m hoping to get out this weekend. First time on the water since July 15.

I was just daydreaming about a fad/spur trip; hopefully this is the year for my first sword.
Unfortunately I think I said the same thing last year...and the year before that...and the year before that...

Give me a shout sometime and if I’m free, I can drive drive over and make a trip with you. I’m not planning on chartering as much this year so I can fish.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a FAD? Sometimes I feel so stupid. Actually more times than I like to admit...

Forgive my ignorance but what is a FAD? Sometimes I feel so stupid. Actually more times than I like to admit... Fish Atracting Device These are put out in deep water (2000-3000 feet) where there is no other structure to attract fish. The bait fish traveling the currents hold on this structure and they attract the predator fish. These are anchored to the bottom and the cable that attaches to them have been breaking.

Never fished the Gulf. From where I am the Gulf Stream waters are about 80 miles out and the bottom goes from 120' to 1800', then 3000+' in fairly short order. At the 1800' drop there are usually pot buoys where I've caught big Mahi. We also get large grass (seaweed) mats that attract school size Mahi and other fish and those mats occur in the shallower water anywhere from 30 miles out to the Gulf Stream. Tried to catch Tuna around them, but the Tuna seem to stay near the canyon walls at the 1800' drop off, or near temperature breaks.
Doesn't the Gulf have similar grass mats and pot buoys that attract fish naturally?

Would it be possible to tow one of them FAD's behind my boat?
