I'm a newbie at audio electronics install, specifically installing a JL Amplifier and connecting it to the head unit. When installing the amp, I'm I supposed to run power directly from one of the batteries all the way to the helm or can I use the block in the helm the the Lewmar windlass is wired to? It's already protected buy a circuit breaker and the only thing on it appears to be the windlass? Any other advice. I'm taking one step at a time.

I installed both of my amps and head unit but far from an expert.
That said, it is best to run the recommended gauge wire from the amp directly to the battery, with an inline fuse close to the battery. I stress making sure the wire gauge be sized appropriately to prevent overheating the wire/fire hazard.
Sharing terminals with other accessories can and will result in interference e.g. buzzing so it is recommended the amp power is connected to its own battery terminal, the ground in particular. Usually audio interference is a result of a bad ground connection and/or ground sharing a terminal with other accessories.

I second this advice. Windlass circuit may be prone to voltage spikes when using the windlass...buffered at the battery but may be troublesome to amp operation or reliability if you pick up power from that circuit, plus you could overload the fuse/breaker if you use both windlass and amp at the same time...for the cost of some wire, do it right.

I'll try to get a picture today that shows them in place.

Make sure the wire is tinned.

All good advice above - proper wire gauge, fuse/breaker and tinned wire. When installing my JL 400, for power source connected from the battery switch to a very close breaker input, then from the breaker output to the amp. Works fine with no electrical interference. Amp's ground cable directly to battery negative Purchased marine tinned wire from Amazon, found it for a great price in the Amazon warehouse because the plastic spool was cracked. Enjoy the 600's power, 🤘
