One of the the batteries on my 2017 245dc has gone bad - I do believe it was operator (meaning me) error allowing it to discharge too low. The batteries are currently Group 24.
So I want to take the time and rewire to a dedicated start battery and a house battery. I want to transition to Lithium and looking a the Epoch batteries. But I am struggling to decide what amp hour capacity to go with.
I have the following devices drawing power when the motor isn't running - Garmin x18HD radar (this will normally be turned off, but I can imagine a time or two when I forget to shut it down) - Garmin 8616xsv - Garmin 24xd GPS antenna - GXM 54 (Sirius XM weather antenna) - Fusion stereo (I do not have any amplifiers, at least for now) - VHF - Washdown pump (when needed) - Livewell
I will obviously add more as time goes on, but trying to decide if I need to go with the 50 AH or do I need to upgrade to the 100 AH.
Has anyone swapped out and transitioned to a Lithium house battery?
What size/AH did you go with?

I have 5 group 27 AGMs on my boat so I have plenty without needing lithium. I can parallel my 2 inverter batteries (runs the grill) with the house battery through a disconnect switch, plus I have two starter batteries since it's a twin engine boat.
For lithium I'd suggest the charging profile be looked at to compare to your chargers or ensure that you have a smart battery management device added so you are sure to properly charge the batteries.

I feel like my 2018 245 DC came from the dealer with group 24's and the factory said that was the cause of dozens of little electrical gremlins and that group 27's should have been installed. I'm away from my boat so I can't easily check, if there's such a thing as a group 21, I guess I could have had 21's and replaced with 24's, but 90 percent sure I went from 24's to 27's. I have replaced both of them last year and went with one starting battery and one deep cycle, the dealer had installed two mixed use batteries.

Thanks to both of you. I think I remember reading previously that group 27 should have been used. I will have to check the location measurements to make sure it will fit - it is tight in there.
I have researched pretty extensively using lithium and AGM as well as the charging profiles needed. I would most likely use a dc-dc charger off the starter battery. But depending on the cost, I might just stick with two AGMs....such a decision.
Regardless, I want to wire to isolate the starter battery so I don't have an issue getting the motor started by an accidental drain.

On my 275 DC the three batteries in the back are indeed a b*tch to get out and to reinstall. Seems to me I had to tilt and hold the port starter battery at a 45 degree angle to get the room to maneuver the house battery out. I got inventive with a dockline to hold the starter battery in position.
I know it won't be my good luck, but my car has an OEM AGM battery and it is still in service at 9 years old...wouldn't it be great it the boat batteries lasted that long?

I am definitely not looking forward to trying to get those bears out of the bilge. And 9 years is amazing! I think my old Nissan is in that same boat (no pun intended) on battery length!

to remove the batteries in the 245 DC I had to first remove the starboard battery, then lift it up and shift it towards the starboard gunnel, balancing it on something, maybe the raw water pump. This allowed me to turn the port battery 90 degrees and lift it out of the bilge, then slid the starboard battery back and turned it 90 degrees for removal. Not easy but not terrible either. If anyone knows a better way, post it up for us.

Say Dumb question - I saw a lot of talk about Deep Cycle batteries either in this thread or another....but I'm about to replace my two engine batteries and they should be *Starting* batteries, correct? House (third battery) gets a deep cycle I would expect....
Please confirm - I'm about to start installation. Note, As did another commenter here, I had to McGyver a hoist to get one battery out and I believe I might have to remove the hatch cover to get the second battery out....
Thanks in advance....

I would go with what you stated, 1 starting battery for each engine and one deep cycle for the house.

Yup that's what I did. Won't be able to install till Tuesday, earliest, and I'm going to have to remove the battery compartment hatch cover to get them in. Was otiginally just going to replace starters and save what I could from the house battery, but I'm doing all three. I don't want to have to revisit this process for as long as possible..... Thanks again.
