I was thinking about getting a 55 QT cooler for the boat. These look nice, plus they are American made, veteran owned:
The idea would be to have enough ice to add to the fish box when needed and keep a few sandwiches and drinks cool.
I see on a lot of boating forums posts about coolers up to 350 Qt. I want to get the full cooler experience, so I didn't know if I should go bigger. I'm thinking I should go up one size just for the future. What do you keep in yours? Any thoughts?

65 quart is about right, 75 if you have the room and would allow even more space for xtra ice.

Bison makes a 75 QT. This is from their site. I wish every cooler company would post a photo like this to see the size:

Definitely go bigger. 65 minimum and bigger if you have room.

Is this to keep on the boat? Shuttle to the boat? Stand or sit on in the boat?
I like roto coolers if they're going to live on the boat as an extra seat or stool, but to me they're too damned heavy to shlep around. A good old 70qt Coleman is hard to beat.
We also have a couple Polar Bear cooler bags for food/drinks and sandbar trips. They're easier to carry back and forth and take up less space.

Haha. Two-quart-itis. So, 65-75 it is. Which coolers do you guys have? We have the Engle 85 that sits in front of the console (holds ice crazy long time). We also keep a RTIC 20 in the boat as well. We put 20 or pounds in the fish box to start the day. The Engle is iced full to the top, and we just scoop small buckets on the catch as needed throughout the day. The RTIC has the Ballyhoo, strip baits, some squid and cigar minnows. Plus, it just the right height to use as a step to get up on the gunwale. Food & drinks go in a RTIC 40 soft side.

The cooler would be for the boat, and mostly for fishing. I would just use it for ice, bait (frozen squid and clams) and/or lunch/drinks. It won't live aboard. I fish throughout the season, but Sept-Nov is when I can do longer fish-focused trips. So, it would only be used for 3 months out of the year, and every once in a while during the season. That's why my first thought was to go smaller. But, they aren't cheap, so I started thinking about what I would need 5 years from now. Buy once, cry once.

I have the Igloo 94 in front of console that came with boat and I have a Yeti 85 I keep in the cockpit. I put a cushion on it and use for extra seating as well.

Wow. That's a lot of quarts. I'm sure you need it based on the photos you post here. One thing that I didn't consider is that coolers like to be filled to the top. I probably can't just take a 75qt cooler and fill it 1/4 full of ice for a quick 2 hour fluke trip in the bay?? I may need more than one.

Well the corollary rule for women is that you divide the age of the last one by 2 and add 15 to get the age of the next one. I don't know how that translates into quarts, but I think it usually ends up going smaller.

Haha. I just ordered a 75qt cooler. I'm ready to go fishing now. Thanks for the suggestions.
