Ok, sacrilege question here but if you HAD to switch out of the Sailfish brand and into another(comparable size etc., not talking a Sabre 45!) brand, what would it be and why? For me, I would take a hard look at Southport. A buddy of mine who runs charters has a 27, it is built like a tank and runs beautifully, really well thought-out layout. Thoughts, opinions?

Yellowfin. No frills hard core fishing boat. Better insulation in fish boxes and great dry ride.

Hmm. I don't know. I purchased the SF about a year ago, so the process was pretty recent. The boats that were at the top of the shopping list then were the World Cat DC and the Boston Whaler Vantage. The WC because the goal of upgrading was to have something more capable on the water. The BW partly because the seating options were nice. I think the SF does both of those things in one. I love my Sailfish, but the goal was to have a family boat. I enjoy going out with the family, or us and another family. When the kids are out of college, I will probably move to a center console. Sailfish will certainly be on the list, but I also like the older Conch 27s.

I've been looking very early stage of the process. First choice 29 SeaVee, 2nd choice is 29 Yellow fin. Both hulls are second to none both are ocean capable with speeds exceeding 65 mph. Hard core fishing machines for me I'll leave the wine and cheese at home or to a restaurant on the water.

I looked hard at a 28 Southport a few years ago and didn't care for the layout; cockpit felt cramped compared to my 2860 and would rather have a few smaller storage options vs one giant coffin box. But the huge gunnels were awesome, a well built hull for sure.
The newer 31 and 32 Cape Horns have my eye since they finally added a few more frills and extra storage.

I think you've changed the question a bit jski59. You're saying it's an individual thing based on your particular requirements and desires and I agree. The 245DC met the Admiral's list of requirements and it was her turn to pick.
If I was buying a fishing only boat for myself, I like the Southport, but I could probably go for a Yellowfin too.

Had my first ride on a Dual Console this weekend - a Pursuit 265 w/ twin 200's. It was an epiphany. Not as well rigged for fishing, but it's the boat that would bring my wife back on the water, and that would be nice (she really doesn't like the center console). Owner is looking to change to a catamaran, and I am first on the list for trading up to his current....

I agree with the Southport layout. Had one in the slip next to me for a couple years. Didn’t like the layout at all. as far as Cape Horn. I have been on a 31 a few times. It’s wet. More so than the Sailfish 29. It does ride great and with wings, no big deal.

When I was looking to replace my 19' Mako CC I originally was thinking parker or Stieger Craft for the cold November and December striper season, went to the Atlantic City boat show and while I was looking for their display came across a Pursuit DC around 26 foot, which then got me looking at some of the other DC boats. When I finally got to the Steiger craft my wife said to me, it's your thing, buy whatever you want, but if you think our daughter (16 at the time) is going to want to spend time on this boat, I think you're wrong...... Ended up with a 245 DC and thrilled with it, give up a little fishing, but more than make up for it in family time. Looked at a lot of the DC in this range and really liked the layout of the Sailfish best. Considered waiting a year for Cobia to come out with theirs, glad I didn't....
