Ouch! I carry this on board in my first aid kit. It kills vibro/flesh eating bacteria which we have in the bay. Major Povidine Povidone Iodine 10% First Aid Ointment 1 Oz / 28.35gm for Cuts Scrapes Burns (Compate to Betadine) a.co/d/4k7a2V2Something to think about. Thanks for posting. Adding to my first aid kit next time I'm on the boat, and if anyone get cut while fishing or swimming it will be used.

I hate the Amazon app which it always seems to open up in and the copy "share" feature stinks. All I want to do is copy the page link and that's not an option so I have to look to try an open amazon up outside of the app. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GCSS6UU/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1QSV0CUV0Y2D3&psc=1Word of caution, don't get it on anything, it will stain, it's Iodine based. It is a salve so it stays in place good but a little goes a long way on the wound and band aid.

Thanks for the new link. Like that it's not liquid and I remember spilling iodine when putting on kids cuts years back and you don't want to do that.

FYI, the doctors told me in my case once that bacteria is introduced through a puncture it's to late. I'm going to see if I can find any photos. My left hand got to be the size of a 12 once boxing glove.

When I get poked or sliced on the boat by fish or the like, I always squeeze the wound to force blood to flush the wound as much as possible, then I rinse with fresh water/soap, followed by the salve and band aid.

Peffect, like yourself it's happened to me so often it's not if, it's when it happens. I've been fishing sense I was 8 years old. Probably been jabbed hundreds of times over the years. So I guess only being taken down once isn't so bad. Just an unlucky day. My hand got so big I had to cut the sleeves of my hoodies and coats to get my hand through.

My neighbor had to have his thumb and palm opened up and cleaned out, talking real surgery all because he got poked by a rockfish fin bone. Took him months to fully recover, his hand looked like it belonged to Frankenstein. Said he was going to quit fishing over it.
Gloves are the answer but I'll admit I don't clean fish with gloves. I think I need to make sure I do from here on out.

Yep a rockfish is what did me in. One of the surgeries they had to open up my wrist on the palm side to go into the tendon sack or tube thats responsible for everything that allows your hand to function. That is where the bacteria settled in. I'm still hesitant about grabbing a fish,I'll offer to ask someone on board, or I'll wrap a towel around the fish.
