Room for improvement, with no room. The board that supports the batteries and the power steering pump pulled the screws and collapsed to the top of the freshwater tank. I was aware of it this past summer, but knew it would be a bear to fix, so I ignored it until today. No pictures really show what happened, so I made an illustration, which I will share with Sailfish next week. I was thinking of replacing the whole thing with ¼” aluminum, but I think it will be easier to just install two aluminum angles to support the existing board. And as I have read several times in the forum, getting the batteries out is a bit tough. It was easier to remove the PS pump and slide the batteries to the port and pullout.

How about moving the batteries forward? Not sure what the console spaces look like on you DC, but a swear a poked around a newer one and the batt’s were in the starboard console.

Not sure why yours failed and others haven't. I moved one battery to the port side to lessen the boat's starboard weight and make battery replacement in the future easier. It might help in your situation, or at least keep it from reoccurring. I just put a wooden box where the moved battery was so I didn't have to do much other than get longer battery cables.

I'm going to think about moving to the front, but already have bunch of stuff there. If I keep in rear, going to move batteries to a centered location. As to fail, the board is not made to hold the weight of two batteries, spanning 3 feet- even if batteries to one side. Maybe other support got left out or someone substituted the wrong material. Thx for input
