A few years back I posted looking for feedback on an oil extractor, ended up getting a 7.3 liter Mightyvac from Sim yamaha. This unit is great, have used it on my yamaha motor, which is what prompted me to get it, but also now use it on all my vehicles (I change my own oil on everything). My logic has been, rather than have 6 or 7 quarts of oil in a pan on the ground under my vehicle while I'm laying on my back, get most of it in the self contained oil extractor and just drain the remnants into the pan, I've kicked over drain pans more times than I care to remember.
SO this weekend I was changing the oil on a 4runner, and being too lazy to go get a step stool to stand the extractor on, I layed it down on top of the radiator, gave it a few pumps to get some vacuum, and left it like that for a while, checking to make sure nothing was leaking.
Well, oil got into somewhere it wasn't supposed to and when I went to pump it again oil was forced up the rod connected to the handle and came pouring out. I left it upright for several hours but it turned out the only way to get all the oil out was to continue to pump the handle up and down until it all pumped out off the handle, pouring all over the top and down the sides, complete $hitshow......
Lesson learned, don't ever lay your mighyvac on it's side while extracting......

Feel for ya. Oil can get messy so quick. Have spots in my driveway to prove it.
Latest car has dealer oil change for life. I'm betting they try and sell me something I don't need every time, but I'll put up with the crap if they just change the oil in a reasonable amount of time. I'll still change it on the boat since Yamaha dealers won't do oil changes for free and I've got things to do on the boat while I'm waiting for the oil to get sucked out.
Oh, X2 on the beer and laugh. Mine as well get something useful out of it.

Unfortunate, however compared to some of the incredibly dumb things I have done.... Was working on a 360 cu in engine in the 70’s as a teenager and put the coil wire in the standup oil filler to keep it out of the way. Forgetting about the sparking coil wire, cranked the engine a bunch of times, flooding the carburetor and I guess some other stuff, blew up oil filler pipe and surrounding soft metal off the engine, burned my eyebrows and some hair off my head and set the engine on fire. The car was in my parents’ garage, but a moment of clarity allowed me to slam the hood down and push it outside. When my Dad got home he asked why there was black soot on the garage ceiling.

That sounds like something I would do. I was about to say the same thing. I could see me doing something like this for sure. May need 2 beers after this one.
