I'm nearly done with the annual buff and wax job. I didn't think it was too bad but the side away from the dock that I don't see often definitely shows that I'm doing something, as you can see in these before and after photos (added just to make sure Glenn feels the love again after the switch photo debacle). A shout out to Milwaukee tools for making an awesome buffer. I accidently bumped mine into the brackish water and it sunk about a foot down for maybe 15 seconds. I pulled it out by the cord, rinsed it in fresh water and hit it with some WD-40 where I could spray it into the buffer without taking it apart. Let it dry a couple of days and it still runs like a top. Unbelievable, I figured I was going to have to buy a new one. Attachments:

Laughing about dropping your tool in the water. I've lost track of how much shit I've drop in over the years, several pairs of expensive sunglasses😡 hand tools ect. I no longer do anything in the water. The trailer comes to my club and I take it out. We have a ramp on our property. Nice work on the boat looks great. I'll start mine March 1st. I'm going to retire from my winter job of delivering home heating oil. Gotta love the Teamsters after 30 years I'll make more money staying home.

Looks great, I am going to have mine professionally done (wet sand/compound/wax) and fix some gouges that I suffered last season as the boat ahead of me on my mooring was too close and the dual props were not kind to my hull. I always do my compounding and wax annually but my hull is 12 years old and could use the extra touch of a professional. Looking forward to the end result!

Sounds like we're all looking forward to boating and fishing. I need to do a few things on the boat before the season begins, but I'm chomping at the bit to get out there. Can't come soon enough. A few years back in May I put some lures out to check their movement and hooked a Cobia. Fought it for quite awhile and then unhooked it at the boat. Ready to do that again.
Jerry, we're going to have to require you to use 'environmentally' safe equipment from now on. Can't have you polluting the ocean while dipping your equipment.

Ha! It was a kerplunck, an oh shit, and a run to unplug it before hauling it up. Couldn't have been more that 15 seconds of immersion. I can guarantee that no sea creatures were harmed...unless they swam under that beast of a buffer when it hit the water!

So I brought my boat to the shop last weekend to have the hull redone, everything is coming off the hull, registration numbers, name, SF name and logo to have a clean and uniform look when done. I am considering not putting the SF name and logo back on for a couple of reasons. We raft up regularly with friends and over the past few seasons part of the name got banged up and had to be replaced(mine is the chrome logo). Also, am thinking the clean look could be really nice. But before doing so I was wondering people's thoughts on this and if others have done the same. Food for thought...

Depends on how bad the fading and wear is under the lettering and on the surrounding area. Even with fairly aggressive work I can sometimes make out the lettering or outline of a previous name or logo, and before you decide you may want to see how it comes out without the Sailfish logo present. You may find that you kind of need to cover it up with new logo letters to make it look "right".

I took the logo off when I took bottom paint off and buffed the hull How did you remove the bottom paint. I'm giving so thought to the process.

Glenn, First let me congratulate you on your retirement. Mine becomes official on April 22 but I’m still starting a second career. The bottom paint….i used an orbital Bosch sander attached to my wet vac. Sanded about 80% on the trailer then moved to a marina where they put it on the stands. I think I used 80, 120, 300, 600, 1000, 2000. Then used Smoove to polish and wax. I took it slow cause I was removing all bottom paint. The reward was a smooth and slick bottom that had plenty of gel coat left. Certainly more labor than skill. Lol.
