Welcome LegaSea and you made a great choice on your boat purchase! As owner of a 2017 275 DC we have similar boats and I'm sure yours will be loved as much as mine once you get out on it a few times. Glad you are part of the forum and I'm sure you are anxiously waiting until early May.

Thanks Jerry, Yes, I am very anxious for the delivery day. I've noticed your boat on some previous posts and was wondering if it was a similar model. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you once I get out on the water. I've ben reading posts regarding the pros and cons of radar, I see that you have radar, just curious what your experience has been and what type you have. My boat does not come with radar and I'm thinking of having it installed by dealer prior to delivery. I expect to be using the boat for mostly inshore fishing and general cruising with the family at first but will be venturing farther out for some offshore fishing once I'm used to it.

Radar-down in FL where I boat there is a lot of shallow water through which deeper channels are marked in the Caloosahatchee River on my way to and from the Gulf. Channels are marked by telephone pole mounted day markers in the intracoastal waterway and adjacent smaller channels; nice and visible during the day, but at night nearly impossible to see since most of them are not lit, and even those that are lit tend to be masked by nearby on-shore light sources. The channel markers also tend to be missing at times due to hurricanes or other boaters hitting them so they aren’t there when your chartplotter tells you there is one coming up, and there are some additional sign posts for things like manatee zones that are not marked at all on the charts. Thus the chartplotter is only marginal for giving clues for post collision avoidance. I really like having radar as an extra set of eyes that work in the dark. Radar also comes in handy at times for watching weather systems with rain, or maybe bird flocks if I am searching for activity that way while fishing, or as a backup to my chartplotter for identifying where I am based on shoreline shape, breakwaters and piers, etc.
We don’t have much fog here in FL but it can rain hard enough to limit visibility so its really nice to have radar for that too as long as it can “see” through the rain—I assume you may have more fog in NJ and if so radar will really give you more confidence and safety.
I put on a Raymarine radar. I got the model that I did because it has no data cable connection, it only has 12 volt power up to the dome and the data connection is made via WiFi back down to my MFDs which are Raymarine Axiom displays. That simplified the install, but truthfully, if you had to add a data cable too its not much harder to do the install than just running power up to the dome since you have to route wires through either way. I can control the radar from the MFDs so there is no other dash mounted clutter related to the radar.

Welcome to the forum and Sailfish. Decided long ago I needed radar for avoiding storms and ships. Mine will also find birds feeding and advises me of possible collisions. Really depend on radar a lot when out at night.

Thanks everyone! Really gives me a lot to think about with regard to the Radar. I really stretched my budget with the boat purchase, but don't want to be doing add-ons down the road. Looking forward to delivery and posting some pics.
