I've heard that marinas with the capability can sandblast old paint away using some sort of media as the sand...like baking soda or plastic beads but I'm not positive. It might be worth looking to see if you could do that yourself, even if it means renting an air compressor and sandblaster...figure out what media will remove the paint without damaging the gelcoat of course. Otherwise I see many hours of sanding, and working above your head while laying under the trailer=NOT FUN!

Yes,recycled crushed glass would be the media. I'll take the trailer out from under the boat today, making it much easier. Prices to blast range from 1800 to $ 2400 plus an additional $1000 for Bottom paint and a barrier coat. Ive got a good Dewalt sander attached to a wet vac no dust. I already have bottom paint total project cost $ 250.

Way better than I expected. Got the trailer out late this morning. Rather then watch the eclipse I spent 3 hours and almost got half way. It's so slick again. I accumulated about ten to twelve pounds of dust in the wet vac unbelievable. Little on me or in the air I'm thinking about 8 hours total should be complete. It's like paying myself $250 an hour.

Looks good! This is a good pre workout before you polish and wax your hull.

I was reading my Boat US magazine today and came across Hempel Silic One bottom paint. Hempelyacht.com is the site listed. Looked interesting. You might look into it if you haven’t bought paint yet.

How did you get off the trailer and on the stands? Just roll it off a little at a time and add stands as she slid off the trailer? Or is there a lift nearby?

Using stands and keel stands and a floor jack. All the weight of the boat off the trailer Using the bow keel stand and the jack pull foreard around the 4 cross members of the trailer.
