It is/could be the last of the 4 strokes with exhaust corrosion problems. 2002,2003,2004,2005 F-225 got it the worst. Rag’s

A fire sale like that would raise my antennae as well. I don't think the '06 Yamahas were infected with the corrosion (I speak from personal experience, my 2003 F225 had the issue, I had it fixed and insurance actually picked up a piece of the cost (after a lengthy fight) as it was deemed manufacturer's defect...I no longer own that boat!) From BoatUS: "Recently, the BoatUS Consumer Protection Bureau has been made aware of dozens of reports regarding serious corrosion problems in Yamaha outboards, specifically 2000 to 2004, first-generation F225 models. Over time — the issue usually surfaces after 500 to 700 hours of use — the engine's exhaust gases appear to corrode the exhaust tube and sometimes the engine's oil pan, which is in the same area."
