First, I'd like to comply with the semi-recent request that we keep politics off the board, so I'd like to remind anyone who answers to please also comply.
I currently bank with TD and BOA and have simply had enough of them pressing their extreme liberal values on their customers, many of those values I disagree with. that said, I have been looking for other options and it seems like all the "big" banks are similar in this regard. I have heard things about Navy Federal Credit Union, but I am unsure if I am eligible to become a member, my father-in-law (deceased) received an Honorable Discharge from the Army, so I think my wife and I can join.
I split my year, half in NJ and half in Florida, so a national bank has a lot of appeal, but I think I am willing to accept the inconvenience of giving that up in order to put my money where my values are.
If anyone has any recommendations, I would be grateful.

When I dealt with NFCU years ago they were a very good credit union. However, it's been years since then and I can only hope they've remained the same. I don't bank with them now although there are a lot of branch offices here in Virginia Beach and I know there are a lot in Florida due to the Navy presence. I do half of my banking with a credit union and am very happy with it. It is much smaller than NFCU and I don't think it has NJ or Florida branches.

I am a member at Navy, Pen Fed and USAA, they all require a family member sponsor unless your active or retired military. All are very good.
I also have a money market savings acct with Capital One, although I can't speak to their views as it relates to pushing policies. Either I'm not paying attention or they aren't trying to push any idelogical polcies on me.
If you're justing looking for a simple checking account, don't overlook your smaller local private banks. Service tends to be very good vs the big institutions although their fees can be higher.

I do 100% of my banking online, never left the banks and credit unions that I had during my employment years and now with online banking to pay bills, deposit checks by mobile phone photos of the checks, using PayPal or Venmo and the like I don't see the need for local branch activity at all. ATMs are nearby that are free to use when I want some cash, but the convenience of paying electronically has taken my check-writing down to just a few checks per year. I also have been able to open CDs or Mutual Funds with the banks that offer the most return using electronic payments and withdrawals from my current primary banking accounts.

I say 35 days to the election let's have open discussions about this idiot from the left trying to be our president. God help us all if she wins.
