Glad I found this place! I picked this boat up last week, hoping it fits the needs of the family better than the KW216 did. We loved the KW but flat out needed a bigger boat for more room and bigger water. We knew the next boat needed to be a touch larger and with a 2 and 4 year old boys, an area with a porta potty would be a plus. I started looking for a 24' bay boat but they haven't made them for long enough for the used market to fall into my (cheap) budget. We started looking a WAC styles and really liked the hydrasport 2300 WAC. On that search, I stumbled on a first gen Sailfish 236 walk in console. I liked the hull lines the first time I saw it, but the high freeboard on the bow isn't what I had in mind.... until it grew on me. I love how the bow line slightly dips back toward the pulpit (hard to tell in the photos). On the winter hit list are the typical updates; - Lowrance electronics
- power pole
- i-pilot trolling motor
- Likely remove the bow rail. I like the looks but hate the function (always in the way).
Goals for this boat are still a lot of local day trips around Michigan but we want to use the Detroit and Saginaw rivers more as well at St Clair more. We're also hoping to do some island trips this year... Lime Island, Beaver, Manitoulin, (great lakes). We drove from MI to FL to get this boat. Our family likes road trips so we aren't scared for long hauls. We spent some time in TN/KY areas, hit up Legoland and Tampa areas, saw friend in ATL, etc... Total trip was;

Welcome aboard! Very unique sailfish. I don’t believe that I have seen this model before. Good luck with her. I haven't even been able to find a single picture of this layout before. I have no idea how rare it is but from my time searching the google machine, its the only one I've found. It makes me wonder if it is a shared hull/cap with another manufacturer in Sailfish's early years.

I'll try to snag some more photos soon and post them up. I'll have to reply on you guys to spot any commonalities or differences with other sailfish hulls.

I've been going back and forth with the Sailfish tech email contact (who has been great) and he was able to provide this flier. He was also able to confirm the boat was built by SportCraft and finished by Sailfish. A fast google search confirms this was called a 252 Sport Craft however some of the hatches, wells, full transom, etc are slightly different.

Welcome and glad you made it!! That is a real cool rig you got there. They used one like it on. Chicago Fire, but I thought it was modified by Hollywood. Keep us updated. Rag’s

Sportcraft Boats were originally made in Perry, Florida. For some reason, there are lots of them in the Great Lakes region, it seems. I originally thought they were made in Miami or Hialeah but couldn't find any research on Google for that. Anyhow, nice looking ride.

So wbones9 you must have done some work to your new toy. Maybe post a photo of something you did and maybe win the Fin-Nor reel and get the deck bloody.

So wbones9 you must have done some work to your new toy. Maybe post a photo of something you did and maybe win the Fin-Nor reel and get the deck bloody. the real work will start after new years. This is a crazy time of the year for work, add in the holiday mix and the unfortunate passing of an extended family member and the boat has gotten no love, other than a pile of parts stacked next to her. I have added reinforcing the front deck to the list of updates. There is a large span in front of the console that needs to have a support stringer under it. Luckily there is a hull stringer in that area but they didn't extended it up to the cap so it should be fairly simple to extend that hull stringer higher to contact (but not be fastened to) the cap. I suspect hey left that stringer short to also fit a WAC style that shared that hull. I did start removing the bow rail but stopped... the bolts that hold the bow rail have backing washers and nuts, not just biting into the glass. Issue is that I can't get to the backing nuts o once I removed the bolts; they likely are never going back in. So I'm going to make triple sure that thats the direction I want to take. I'm 95% certain it is. I will be installing a low profile rail on the front which I think will make the boat look more modern and still function as a grab rail. As far as getting the deck bloody, we're iced in for another 3 months or so so the only blood (and sweat) will be my own.

I do find it comical that I loved the look of this hull so much AND I have grown up in the Great Lakes area and the Sport Craft hulls have always been one that caught my eye (usually in the 31'+ flavors). There must be enough common lines or styling hints between this 246 and some of the bigger brothers that it caught my eye.
