Small game just opened locally. We got on a few squirrel. Figured I’d share a recipe. Kill and clean the squirrel (I use just the quarters) Bring water in a pot to a boil, throw in cleaned squirrel and then simmer/slow boil x 20-25 min and remove (check every now and then to make sure you don’t boil the meat off the bone. This step is what makes them tender). Remove from the water. Season to taste and cover in flour or seasoned flour, or a seasoned fish fry whatever you prefer. Fry in a pan until browned The sauce: Franks red hot wing sauce buffalo Butter In a pot mix about a 1/3 cup sauce and 2 tbl spoons of butter and melt (1/2 dozen squirrel or so) Toss the sauce and squirrel together And enjoy

Wow looks good,,, but I thought only Jethro from Beverly Hillbillies ate squirrel... Lol... Well.....have you seen many of my posts on hunting over the years...? Lol Deer, pig, squirrel, rattlesnake (not just saying this, but it’s damn fine meat, tops.), gator, rabbit, frogs, etc. One time we shot an armadillo on a hunt to try it. We had it have way quartered out and our other buddy was on his phone looking stuff up and said ”hey did you know armadillo carry leprosy?” We didn’t eat that one. Nor did I try the deep fried ballyhoo. Other than that, I’m game for nature’s bounty!

Buffalo tree rat! Just about anything will taste good in buffalo sauce. Lol
That first picture reminds me of rabbit hind quarters. Would always kill a couple when pheasant hunting. Damn good fried in a skillet.

I still can fish the Lynnhaven River, but hunting bans went in place years ago. Used to be 10-20 duck blinds on the river and now none. It was fun while it lasted. My friends and I would go out hunting Nutria for their bounty ($1 per Nutria back when), squirrel, deer, geese and ducks almost every weekend in the fall.
Glad you're still able to get out and enjoy hunting.

Looks good Ol'Mucky.
Rattlesnake....thats a new one.
You're not missing much with the fried ballyhoo. It tastes just like you would think....like baitfish. I ate (well tasted, usually one bite was enough) alot of things in China that i would consider bait and they all tasted like...bait.

The way you involved your son with hunting at a young age is a great thing. It's something you will do with him the rest of your life. I like this post and you guys keep eating what ever you kill. As for me I'll stick with Italian food my wife is a great cook.
