Part 1 consisted of changing the lower gear case oil a month ago.
Today it warmed up to a balmy 43 degrees and it was sunny for once and we didn't have any sports. So I was able to knock out part 2...
Changed the engine oil/filter with mobile 1 High Mileage 10w/40. Changed the tstats/gaskets, checked the anodes and replaced 3 while I was at it.
I also took another oil sample to compare Mobile 1 High Mielage 10w/30 vs last year's Yamalube oil sample. Will be shipping that off to Blackstone soon. Although I put less hours on the oil this year than last, it still had +/-120 hrs. Very interested to see how the Mobile 1 compares. I plan to do the same next year to compare the 10w/40 against the 10w/30.
Part 3 is tomorrow or Monday weather depending, water/fuel separators and inline fuel filter on front of engine.
Getting ready for Spring slowly but surely.

Sadly even when I finish I am still not done, as I have to figure out how to change the fluids and filter on a 40hp Merc on boys Whaler. cant be all that different can it?

I did a little work myself today. FYI it's my understanding not to leave dirty oil sitting in your crank case for any lenght of time. Reason being the aluminum block can become damaged by having contaminated sitting for any long lenght of time. When I pull my boat for the winter season the first thing I do is drain the crank case. Maybe a bit much but I've been told this by more than one Yamaha mechanic.

Wondering if I should change mine. There are two in the back on the block by the spark plugs and one block anode on the port side. You should at least be pulling them and checking them. If you do, make sure you have new gaskets, you cant reuse the gaskets.

Yes, I forgot, thanks for reminding me, if you pull them, I recommend getting a new rubber grommet AND the gasket that goes on the housing the anode is attached to. Also, keep in mind while one anode might be fine, you could have one or two others that are eaten away. So when inspecting them dont just pull one and assume if it looks okay the others must be okay too.

Will do,, I'm just going to change them all. If you remember last year when I went to change the thermostats I pulled out the anode by accident you're laughing at me. And you thought I could only screw up wiring...lol
