When I was doing my yearly 100 hour service, I raised my F-225 on my 236 Sailfish off the bottom hole up two. From reading the Yamaha performance reports and looking at other people’s boats I was gonna to go one hole. But Mikey convinced me that with a Mercury Rev4 on it I should go two holes as he as had great luck with it. So I had the boat out and it is really tuff to get on plane, I am missing about 5 mph at cruise rpms and the slights wave makes the prop cavatate. I am seeing 400+ more rpms with about the same top speed. This was with 3 adults and 25 ish gallons of gas. I plan to run it again this weekend and note specific rpms and speed. I will also take a strait edge and a tape measure to the bottom and some pictures. The big question is do I put it back on the lowest setting where I have been happy with it or do I try the hole in the middle? Rag’s

What prop and what specs?
What's your max RPM now?

It is a 25” motor with a 17p Rev4 3 people and 95 gallons of gas had no problem seeing 6000 rpms. But it was only 1 mph faster then before I moved it at 5650 rpms. Before I monkeyed with it the plate above the prop was 1.5 inch above the keel. I will try to post pictures and specs Saturday when I can get back over to the boat. Rag’s

Sounds like it might be a bit too high if the prop is ventilating. You could try dropping a hole.
Also adding some cup to Rev 4s helps with bite.

So Sunday I lowered my motor back to the bottom hole. I took a 2x4 to the bottom and trimmed it all the way down the vent plate was 2 and 3/4 inch above the flat spot on the keel. I did not get to run the boat as the wind was picking up. I will see how Rich Junkers improvements work and maybe move it up 1 hole in the Spring. Rag’s

Sorry Rags for convincing you to go too high. I just remembered that i owe you that other measurement. I will try and get it today.

Mikey, I am not mad at you by any means. I did measure my bolts like we talked about on I G messager and they seam with a 1/2 inch of what you said yours was. I appreciate your knowledge. It was a great experiment that cost me zero dollars. Next spring I will prob try 1 hole, but sense I had th Attachment Deletede prop worked on also I figured I would move it back to where I knew how the boat handled and had performance numbers. Rag’s

I'm pretty sure mine is mounted 2 holes up from the lowest setting, and I'm running a 17p Rev4 as well. Very happy with my current set up, but it's a F250, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Hollywood9 what do you see for top speed and RPM? I am wondering if my bottom pain could cause just enough turbulence or agitation to the water??? Rag’s

I'm seeing 5800 rpm at 44-45mph. I can trim the motor up some without it blowing out too.

Why did you guys choose a rev 4? Are these boats stern heavy? I am turning an old school 17m to 6k with a 225 4stroke. My understanding is that you need to drop 2” of pitch going to a 4 blade.

I don’t know if stern heavy is the right word but they tend to run bow high/proud. I have the exact same rig as you an 04 236 with a F-225. Witch is probably a little lite on HP for the boat loaded to fish. I went with the Rev4 from great experience with them in the past and my boat had a Thunderbolt on it when I got it and it would break loose easily. Rag’s

Got it thanks for the reply. I have run rev 4’s on several of our boats with great luck. I will give One a try on this rig. I know our motor is set one hole up from the bottom. It should be abig improvement over the old 17-m that is on it now. I have to do the bottom first as it has 13 years of bottom paint build up.
