Went over to Orange Beach, AL fishing this weekend (no fish to report). Tried for swords with 3 bites and no hookups. Grander marine just down the road from my buddy’s place had the new 36 Sailfish out front. I stopped and took a few pics. My initial thoughts on the boat were confirmed. It’s very nice, but not set up for hard core fishing. It would make a great expensive island boat. Here are a few pics.

Also looked at a 320. I really like this boat. Here is a pic of the new leaning post. It’s about a foot shorter than the old one and does not have a baitwell. I may go back next weekend for the boat show. It’s the largest on the gulf coast. Attachments:

I love that color. It’s sharp. Light gray with a hint of blue.

I like the 36. For the long runs I used to do I love that it has triple 300's. Years ago I did some work on a 33' HydraSport with triple 275's on it. The owner took me out for some offshore fishing on and we ran in the mid 40's out to deep water. Compared to what I was used to running I liked how the HS chewed up the distance we had to run. What would it need to make the 36 a more hardcore fishing vessel?

What would it need to make the 36 a more hardcore fishing vessel? More room, more fish box storage and less crap. There is no room between the console and leaning post out towards the gunnels. There is 7 feet between the motors and the transom (no way to gaff a fish off the back). I fish a 36 yellowfin and 36 cape horn a good bit and love the trips. These two are hard core fishing machines. No trills like motorized awnings in the t-top and a coffin box attached to the front of the console that you have to walk all the way to the bow to get around. Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice boat. I'm sure it fits the need for a lot of boaters. But for my wants, I want a clean floor plan with 360 degree fish ability. If Sailfish wanted me to run it for them for a year, I would be more than happy. I'm sure I could kill some fish in it and tear some crap up for them.

Good follow-up, now I can see it's one of those things where you realize it when you actually walk the deck. When I bought my 266 it was only after looking at a lot of boats and configurations to realize the 266 offered the best layout and use of space for me.

The 36 is a beast but I agree more for cruising, not a fishing machine. What's with the Yamaha's having a different color lower unit??

Go to Grander Marine Orange Beach website for more photos. I bet they have 50-60 photos of the 360.

The 36ft looks like 95% sandbar boat 5% fishing. Its a shame looks like they are copying the big Scouts. I agree the 32 Sailfish is a sweet ride...

Thanks for the report. I will pass on the color though. Unless it looks a lot brighter in person. Rag’s
