I wonder whats the difference between the GOLD and the regular plans. They both sound like the same thing. Also, the small print says add another $24 for BoatUS dues? Seems a little sketchy to me. I am just getting ready to renew my Seatow.

Nothing sketchy about it. It's $50 off which is a good deal, an even better as a % off on the lower price point plan. The $24 membership fee is paid either way just to belong to Boat US, the towing plans are extra. Boat US very rarely offers discounts. Nice thing is the girl at the cash register had my membership info which is part of my WM rewards and was able to take care of it in seconds at check out.
I've been a Boat US member for over a decade, but have been paying $170+ for Gold coverage.
Gold coverage provides for a broader range of tow services/coverage to include towing from your dock to a maintenance facility, fuel drops, on road trailer service etc

Thanks for the good info. I forgot Sea Tow was $179 a year. I was thinking it was less.

In 11 yrs on or around renewal, I've never found a discount on Boat US towing, this deal was not being broadly marketed as far I know so it was just happenstance I came across the special. It was too good to pass up and not share.
At $75 it might be worth it to someone to sign up if they've never had it before.
Boat US has better coverage in the areas I boat, that and I heard one too many negative stories about Sea Tow.
Being a Boat US member you also get the upgrade WM rewards package.

I use Sea Tow in Florida. They've always been great and very responsive when needed......which is only twice. LOL. Sea Tow rep told me Sea Tow is owned by local guys and they earn their money through the memberships. Boat US is a big network but operates more as an insurance company meaning they get paid more to tow your boat than bring you oil or gas for example. My friend manages the local West Marine and I have boating friends that have both. She told me that Boat US is connected to Geico as well. I've always selected Sea Tow because they had comparable pricing and I like to support the local merchants. I now know the Sea Tow owner by name, talk with him when he's on the water, etc. Also, Sea Tow will go out 150 miles which means they cover most of the Bahamas. I'm just glad both companies are available to assist boaters in need.

Boat US is also operated as local franchises. My brother in law had a guy and several of his boats based out of his marina on Deal Island. His wife was the dispatcher and he was the captain. Same in the outterbanks of NC, great captain that runs out of Hatterras, so dont think Boat US is any different in that regard. I think the most important factor to consider is who provides the best coverage in your area. For me, in the mid Atlantic Boat US and they have stellar reputation.
