Little different fishing trip than most, but in neighborhood of lot of fellow members.
i am flying today to join my uncle in south Bimini, on his 38’ sailboat. planing to depart Saturday am, riding the stream landing 220nm north in New Smyrna Beach.
My uncle has been on a solo trip since last summer, start in Great Lakes, down Mississippi, round gulf, an been in Bahamas since early Jan.
He developed a abscess infection, over past few weeks, I hope to be of significant assistance to him, help him back to US healthcare, antibiotics. Hes recently retired ER doc, but 30 hr solo boat trip is lot for someone in good condition.
Planning to troll as much as possible, whole trip will be 6 kts thru water, hopefully in on Sunday afternoon.
Mahi time?

Love to at least raise a Sailfish too, plenty of white marlin, couple blues, but no sails in my history, only occasionally occur here in late summer,
See how goes.
Limited on gear. But lot miles in gulfstream.

Sailfish in the middle Gulf Stream are pretty rare but you never know. I've raised a few marlin on trips to the Bahamas trolling large lures at a pretty good speed. Mahi are much more likely. If you hug the Bahamian coast up towards Walkers Cay and then shoot across you might catch one. Good shot at catching either tuna, including yellowfin or wahoo.

Mahi be fine, just Sailfish on bucket list, specially w owning one, trolling small artificials, limited space, probably release / break off anything very large.

Zappers is what we used to call them when I was still in USMC. We’d put them at all the places we stopped for gas, and a lot of bars. If there was already one there we would write our call sign on it. Might be fun to do with a logo for this site? Then post pics when spotted?
Be a pretty easy logo I’d think. Sailfish logo with this web site listed under it? Probably should be orange with blue print to match my boat!
Hard part would be getting enough interest to make them cheap. We gave them away at the squadron, covered by monthly mess dues, but no idea the actual cost.

So smooth sail just about 30 hrs in duration, trolling was slow, caught 2 skipjack tuna, unfortunately what were probably best areas coming up shelf and slope waters on Florida side we covered at night, but docked in New Smyrna Beach now. Will see how GoPro pic came out.
