Got back yesterday.
Not the best trip.
Supposed to have been @9-10 mph and tons of storms to dodge with seas around 1-2
We arrived and day 1 was best (tons of storms in the Atlantic) for the most part so we went out back to dive and spear
It was nice, not super clear. TONS of hogfish that were 15.5” and under
Did so so.
Swimming back with our stringers and a 3’ bull shark harassed us. Hit my fin, then my calf (not biting, he would dart in for a grab at the stringer and when he’d bolt his tail would wack me) then went to my buddy. Knocked him in the thigh near the groin and it made him drop his stringer.
Focker would not be denied. I was seconds from capping him in the skull.
Oh, lobsters haven’t showed up yet.
Next day (and the rest of the trip) zero rain or lighting. And the winds a solid 12-16kt. The Seas were a Gulf 2-4 chop (various directions and small period).
Hit the reef. Winds, anchoring and tide made YT fishing tough. Managed a few. Got my pb mutton 25”
We hit a wreck. Got sharks, Bonita, Spanish, and a shit ton of big runners.
We had live mullet the whole trip. Not one fish would eat it. Not one
Here is another bottom day
Saturday looked to be our best chance to get offshore.
It was 10ish, 2’er and decent period
(Wind even laid down for about 30 min at one point)
We headed out in the decent seas and found amazing weeds in 450
One knockdown and that was it. In 3 hours. It seemed that the winds were going to be kind finally!
We said let’s go deeper since winds were in our favor
And then headed out to deeper water. Within 20 min it was back to 15ky and 3-4’s. And since we were on the edge of the stream they were crappy
So I turned back.
First day
Morning we left lol
Some say the keys will give ya a good trip or not.
It wasn’t what we were hoping for, but we got out of work for a few
