Ok, the ground wire is for the switch ON illumination only, it has nothing to do with the NavAnc itself. The wire on the bottom of the switch will be the all gray wire. Next will be the orange wire on the middle tab. At the top of the switch will be the gray wire with the blue trace. The diode will connected so that the white band is on top and that side of the diode will be connected to the tab with gray wire with the blue trace on it. That should make it right.
The all gray wire should be your bow nav lights and the gray wire with the blue trace is your anchor light wire.

That's the way I have it connected now. However the switch has the same affect with the lights.

Not at the boat now I will recheck the wiring to be sure. I haven't been out at night in years, what is responsible for lighting up the command link gauges do they also work off of that switch panel.

The gauge lights wire is blue in the Yamaha wiring loom. If they come on when the ignition is turned on then you'll find that the blue wire is connected to a yellow wire in the Yamaha ignition switch. If they come on when the Nav light is turned on then it's wired to the Nav light circuit on your nav light switch, it will be on the bottom post for that switch. I think you indicated this in one of your earlier posts.
If the diode is attached correctly it can't turn on both the nav and anchor lights no matter which side of the switch is turned on. You'll want to make sure the diode is connected only between the gray wire and the gray wire with the blue trace and the white band is on the side that faces the gray wire with the blue trace on it.

Okay, that diode is permanently linked together to the gray wire and the gray wire with the blue tracer from the factory. I'll have another go at it next time I'm there thank you for your help buddy really appreciate it
