A friend of mine is looking at possibly buying a 2010 2660. The boat currently has a porta-potty on it and the prospective new owner asked me if it's possible to install a marine head with holding tank, overboard discharge, and pump out. I've not heard of anyone ever doing a retrofit before and wonder if anyone here has ever heard of someone doing it?

I've never heard of anyone doing that Ron. I'm not even sure how one would go about running the plumbing and installing a holding tank. Seems like it would be more trouble and expense than it's worth. We use our porta potti, it gets emptied and cleaned a couple of times of year, it's really not that bad, no mess etc. Plus I get more useable space inside my console that is not being taken up by the head. It might be cheaper to buy 100 porta potties and just throw them out when they get full.

I tend to agree with fishnfool. I've had both porta-potty and holding tank and I'd say the porta-potty was probably less of a problem than the holding tanks. I'd put marine antifreeze mixed with water in the porta-potty and never had to do anything special. With the holding tank boats, I'd have to winterize each year and with one of the boats, it tended to smell when in rough water.
I guess if you're living aboard or using it daily, it makes sense, but even with 3 young girls onboard almost every weekend I only had to empty the porta-potty every couple of months.

I hate a head on a boat. They always smell they need to be set up with fresh water only the saltwater is what eventually ends up making that nasty smell. The porta potties are basically for an emergency. And for the women so when the there not on the boat leave it home and enjoy the extra space.

My Sailfish uses fresh water for the head. Hoping that will make a difference. This summer may tell since the girls have said they want to go out more this year.
