Sailfish was at the Houston Boat Show this past week, which I was pleasantly surprised to see. Was checking out the 270CC and opened up the electrical panel on the backside of the helm and I was shocked to see the wires just hanging in a globed mess. Nothing was marked and very little was secured. I literally reached down and pulled out a bunch of wires. I had looked at other boats where everything was zip tied, secured to a panel and neat. There was a Sailfish factory rep there so I asked him why it was like that, and his response was "that's just the way it's done." I could see the salesman trying to crawl into a hole. I felt bad for him. Needless to say I was less than impressed with the rep's response. I wish I had taken a picture of the mess but I didn't. I've read other posts where Sailfish hasn't been known for their wiring. Does anyone have a picture of how their wiring looks now? Has it improved over the years? Maybe this was an isolated case?

Mine is a 2007 it's not pretty. However a hand full of zip ties can clean things up. I will say I've never had any issues with the wiring so it's ugly but it works and still working fine.

I think a lot of us forget that the majority of wiring is quite likely done by the selling dealer or previous owner. Mine wasn't too bad when I bought it but after adding everything electro-mechanical I could on it, it's a mess. There's no room to get in and tidy it up without cutting out a huge back panel to make room. What do you do with all the extra wiring from the VF antenna, the Sirius antenna, the radar cables, the many nema 2000, nema 0183 cables, the auto pilot cables, etc, etc? All you can do is wire them and jam the left overs into the small cavity the factory has made. It's the price you pay for the huge amount of room you get in a small boat console. My buddy's 28 Sea Vee has the most beautiful wiring but little to no storage area. You can hardly fit one body in there sitting down.

Additions, customizations and repairs can lead to an unsightly mess. But this was a brand new boat without GPS, Chart plotters, NEMA, sounders, etc. God, I wish I had taken a picture.... Maybe their idea is that the customer will add the gizmos he or she wants and then clean up as he or she sees fit. Thinking back on it, I was just as disappointed with the rep's answer. The words he was looking for was "That's great feedback from our customers. I'm going to take that back to the shop and voice your concern." Maybe I'm turning high maintenance.

My 2018 245 DC was nicely zip tied and fairly nicely laid out until I started adding. I had to cut zip ties and tie supports to install the radio and autopilot head. Then I added the windshield wiper and radar wiring. I did an okay job of keeping the wiring neat, but not a great job. My biggest concern is the buss bar connections. I had to get longer screws so I could have 3 wires on the buss bar screws in a couple of places. Most of them had 2 connections before I even started. It would have been nice if Sailfish had larger bars to begin with. Of course, if doing wish lists, I'd love cable labeling and a detailed cable diagram too.

I am really surprised about that especially since it is a new boat. Maybe some hack from the dealership starting playing around with things. My 2012 is wired really clean with everything labeled. I will consider myself lucky!
