I know there have been a lot of posts on trimming our Sailfish boats, effect of different conditions, amount of tab, etc.
After running the 218 for some time, what I still don't understand is why I need so much trim tab when the boat and conditions should be basically balanced. This was reinforced the other evening when I was running down the ICW and it was calm, no wind. Had the wife and me evenly sitting on the leaning post, full tank of gas, no other significant equipment that was off-center, and I had to trim the starboard side 'up' about 6 bars out of 10 to get it level. The weight should have been evenly distributed, and if anything, a little more on the port side.
Other than prop torque, I don't understand why the boat would run with the port side so much further down?

How far do you trim your motor up at cruise?
Where is the trailing edge of your trim tab above the prop set? You may want to try a degree more to starboard.

In calm water I use very little trim, if any. Motor trim yes but trim tabs no. Just enough to keep it level. And I don't have a trim tab gauge with bars on it to confuse me so I can't help you.
Is your bait well filling up while you run?

Bait well fill was valved off.
I'm not sure where the trim tab edge is relative to the motor trim. I'll trim motor up and down depending on roughness of approaching seas (i.e. large wake coming up). When water was calm, I'll trim motor up to get higher rpm's, but I don't remember it having much effect on levelness or ability to reduce the amount of trim tab. It just seems the boat should run level.
I've discussed this several times with my neighbor as we have run in each others boats. The Sailfish, with its sharper deadrise, does seem to get 'stuck' at times heeled to one side or the other. It requires a sharp steer to the opposite side to get it tracking level again. However, I don't think this effect was occurring during the calm water runs.

I came from owning only inboards where I trimmed to life the stern and get the props a little more parallel to the running attitude. Trimming motors is complete witchcraft for me.... I honestly just give the engines a couple of bumps and the RPMS go up and she starts racing. They I tab it down a touch so I can see where I am going....
In your case, I have experienced that when I am running with a beam current.

In your case, I have experienced that when I am running with a beam current. Yes, that makes sense, but I was running in the Intracoastal with little or no wind, current or tide. Going north or south didn't matter, the starboard side had to be raised with the trim tabs to get the boat level. Motor trim didn't seem to have much effect.
