Was just given 4 of these from my father in law who sold off his boat last year. Not new, not sure how old. Haven’t stripped line yet so it’s hard to tell.....but could the spoils be plastic?!?

Some were plastic some are metal. I have both, I use them to spool wire line for bass fishing. Their a bullet proof real.

I have 3 with metal spools. I haven’t used them in 3-4 years. Work horses for sure.

They are on some nice all roller trolling rods, but I prefer lever drag for trolling. Plan to pair one with a bottom rod and load with braid, plastic spools just concern me for cracking, though the instances of that I’ve seen the reels were probably 40 yrs old. I’ll need to get it serviced, I’ll probably ask if they can get a metal spool for it.

I'd send them in to Ricks Reel Service or Alan Tani and give them a good tune up, put some new drag washers in.

Can’t beat those reels. I have four and still run two of them as flat line rods for trolling and they still catch tuna
