I hope it's because everyone is busy using their boats. I know I've been doing just that. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer.

I was thinking the same thing. Did a little sand bar fun with the family today. Only the 2nd weekend since Memorial Day that I haven’t fished.

Since it's quiet. Today I used my friends 17' whaler here in NJ since my boat is in FL. I forgot how good the sailfish rides and ease to control in tight spaces. It was nice just jumping off the bow at the sandbar from the whaler though

I was out fishing for Spanish Mackerel for a few hours today, but only caught blues. Fun pulling them in, but was really hoping for some large mackerel. Great day all the same; I was out fishing, waves and wind were light, caught fish. Who could ask for more?

I'm back into it. A few weeks ago I got a call from the guy I used to captain for. He was in the process of buying a neighbors 26' cc console and wanted me to come along on the sea trial with his marine mechanic and the seller. The boat turned out to be a 2010 Sailfish that I had worked on 9 years ago. The mechanic did find an issue with one of the trim/tilt cylinders. I don't know the details of the final sale, but the boat was purchased and we did get out on Sunday of the first weekend of the red snapper mini-season. We limited out quickly. We did have an issue with the engines and for right now until it's resolved we're stuck at the dock. In another week the owner travels to Europe for a month, so it may be a little while before I'm back out more consistently. The boat has 250's on it, the best mpg I got on the trip was about 2.1. I was doing better than that on my 266 with 225's. This boat does have four blade props on it and the max rpm I could get out of it was 5,000. That's at the bottom end of the engine specs, I was getting closer to 6k on my old boat. The boat porpoises a lot too. I was able to trim that out, but it needs a lot of down trim to stop it. I'm wondering if all of these issues are related to the props. I have not had a chance to see what size they are, but I'll look when I have an opportunity to check the boat out more closely.
So fin, how have the blue gills been biting this year?

So fin, how have the blue gills been biting this year? Well Capt. Ron I'm happy to see you spending time on the water, better than being at the dock fixing your friends boats. Fishing has slowed down because the water has warmed up in the sound.. Spent the last week Gathering bunker for Shark Bait and chim planning a trip offshore the end of the week. Spent the day on the water with my wife and son and friends drinking beer and hitting a nice restaurant on the water. I didn't have a fishing rod on the boat that's some sad sh%t. Hope all is well.

I’ve been slammed at work. I’ve been doing 18 hour days for over a week between work and building a bed and other home items. I was up one Friday until 630 am, “slept” til 10a, Then was up til the folllowing Sunday 5:30 am
Been doing some night fishing, we have 4 gator tags so we’ve been scouting 3 straight weekends (and a wee bit of dranking I suspect)
School and football/dance start for the kids very soon
Yeah it’s been busy

I agree, the forum has been pretty quiet. I'm guessing everyone is out on the water enjoying their rigs, I know I was yesterday!! This damn work thing keeps getting in the way of boating...
