Spent this year's short season at Little Torch Key rental. This is the first year we are doing it on my Sailfish. In the past we did it on my friends boat which was a lot bigger, but he sold his boat. This year was also had the smallest crew, with only three scuba divers. Also, it was the first year my son caught them with scuba gear, as he just got certified in May. We limited out on Wednesday with 48 lobsters, and on Thursday we got 40. In the afternoons we did bottom fishing, and on a few of the days we went offshore fishing in the mornings. By Friday night our freezer was so full of various fish and lobster, that on Saturday we did some tubing, sand bar chillin', and an evening in Key West. Nice job. Looks like everyone had a good time.
The lobster count seemed really low this year. Spots that were loaded last year were completely empty. Ended up finding them and had our limit before 9am but it just seemed off. Didn't end up going the second day due to the low numbers.
How was the crowd in the keys? Hopefully you were able to avoid some of that mini season traffic.

We launched early and we were over our spots at sunrise, which was around 6:45am. We left the lobstering every day at noon. Saw lots of FWC presence, both on boat and helicopter, but did not see anybody being boarded. The drive back was not bad at all. I left Little Torch key towing my boat at 11:00am on Sunday, and I was home in Miami in 3 hours, including one stop.

How does that 1/2 T truck of yours do at pulling and stopping your 26’ with the 250’s on it? I am always thinking about a bigger boat. Rag’s My truck hauls the boat with no problems. I ordered it with a 4x4 drivetrain, the tow package, and an upgraded differential. This set-up is rated for 11K lbs of towing. My local ramp is only 3 miles from my house, but I do haul the boat to the keys and the west coast of Florida several times a year, from Miami. On those trips I always have the truck packed with family and other stuff, and the Chevy has been flawless for the past 3 years. I have 50K miles on it and I love it. A few times I have had to jump to aid others at the boat ramp. Two weeks ago we had a really low tide during the new moon. A guy with a F250 was not able to pull his Grady White 306 out. His truck was a 2x4. I hooked my Chevy up to his trailer, and without any hesitation she pulled the boat out. I've never had any issues stopping either, especially after I upgraded both of the axles on the trailer to all Stainless Steel brakes.

How deep for that bull? We got to about 2100 and still only smaller. We only got 4 keepers in 2 weeks on 4 or 5 trips out, albeit one was coming back from the hump, one was only in about 600ft and we found nothing biting. Learned a lot. Brought home probably around 60-80 ballyhoo so I can use them around here for a trip to 2. On that note, where do you find ballyhoo out of Ponce? I caught a few mangroves, 1 Yellowtail, kid caught a yellowtail, tons of those Bar Jacks, but only 4 Mahi keepers, the rest were all released, other than some bar jacks and some cat fish I used to bait the crab trap. Oh and only 2 god sized crabs, and 1 smaller female which I let go. Caught a mangrove in the crab trap too. We came home with a little bit of Mahi meat which will be gone today.
We did get to hang out with these guys for a while. I finally got the phone out and started shooting. Of course no fish were biting during that hour.
