My Spring project was to replace the switchpanel and rear duplex switches on my 2007 218CC.
The replacement switches for the rear panel for the freshwater pump and saltwater washdown pump came in first. The switches had been working but the indicator lights had been burned out. A nagging concern was that I didn't hear either pump come on lately when I was verifying switch part numbers. When I replaced the switches, neither pump worked. Both had been working the last time I went out. After searching and reviewing some old posts from Team Ruby (thanks!), they pointed me in the direction to start testing things. I was initially thinking that there was some common problem since they both quit the same time. However, after spending part of yesterday and all today checking switches and Deutsch connectors, I concluded the pumps had decided to quit after 14 years.
I have to confirm all the previous posts on this and the other forum that yes, getting the pumps out is a major PIA, especially with the boat on a lift. I had to balance on the ladder with another foot on the motor to access some connectors and screws in the motor well portholes. I did lose one nice long Phillips screwdriver in the process.
Anyway, I'm trying to get the current equivalent models for these pumps if you could confirm and chime in on what you've done and found to last? I was looking to stay with Shurflo as these seemed to last a long time. On some posts, the owner went with another brand and/or higher flow & pressure. If I go bigger, I'm concerned that I could unknowingly exceed the amperage capacity of the existing wiring, breakers, etc.
The existing freshwater pump is a Shurflo 8050-204-143, 1.6 gpm @ 30 psi, 3.0 amps
The existing saltwater washdown pump is a Shurflo Problaster 2088-732-264, 3.4 gpm @ 45 psi, 11 amps max, 15 amp fuse/breaker
The freshwater pump I'm looking to use is a Shurflo Aqua King II Jr. 2.0 4128-110-EO4: 2.1 gpm open, 1.1 gpm @ 30 psi, 3.6 amps max (https://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Water_Pressure_System-Shurflo_Aqua_King_II_Automatic_Fresh_Water_Pumps.html)
The saltwater washdown pump is a Shurflo Problaster II Deluxe 4.0 4248-153-EO9: 4.0 gpm open, 2.2 gpm @ 60 psi, 2.6 gpm @ 40 psi, 10.2 amps max (https://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Washdown_Sump_Utility-Shurflo_Problaster_II_Washdown_Pumps.html)
They have one model up on the washdown pump- Deluxe 5.0 4258-153-EO9: 5.0 gpm open, 2.9 gpm @ 60 psi, 3.4 gpm @ 40 psi, 13.5 amps max. This one seems to match the original flow and pressure closer. Do you think a few more amps will be a problem or cause nuisance breaker trips? It's also ~$80 more expensive
What say you?
