79 degrees. It was a pocket. The temps from the inlet out to the AR were 80 to 82 degrees. Probably going to try the rock pile, the rise and or triple zeros Friday if the weather holds. 10-4 on that we may go Friday as well but will be headed north if we do towards your way. Rutgers is showing a good temp break on the 600 line near the rise. Gonna wait and see what the afternoon SST shots show then decide. Weather is looking real good 0% precip chance and nice seas tomorrow. Gonna be hydrating today:)

Slow day today. A little more lumpy and windy than the forecast called for. Was a NE wind so the further we got away from land the more choppy it got.
I couldnt keep my baits clean of sargassam, it was all over. It's going to form a hell of a weed line if it doesnt get blown out by a storm. Heard some charter pulled some slingers in from a few larger pads, but sound slow, one Captn said the fish seemed deep. Albatross out of Hatteras had a white and a sail today. There was a report of some tuna caught north.
Had one decent size wahoo crush a blue/white islander and hoo, he skied it out. Put my 13 yr old on the rod he fought it for a few minutes before the line gave way.
For some reason my line was all chafed, I should've changed out the rod, not sure how it got chafed. Maybe on my outrigger clip?
I have no bottom fish game so all we did was troll today.
Fished from 700' to 130'. Water temp ranged from 80.5 to 82 degrees. The wahoo was hooked in 200' just NE of the rock pile.
Seas smoothed out some around 3pm so was able to run home at 32 mph.

Man well at least you gave it a good go, that's why they call it fishing not catching... I had a couple buddies come back yesterday and caught to slingers and a blackfin near the nipple. They said the same thing that they spent half the time cleaning baits from broke up weed lines. After that and them telling me the chatter they herd on the radio I decided to hit the sand bar and check out the scenery instead of running back offshore. July is always a crapshoot as the water is hot and the fish are scattered.

Some seem to luck out and crush it, although I dont think anyone crushed it today. Ill take what I can get, which wasn't much other than being tired and sore now. Playing mate and captain is tough work. I can use a day at the beach tomorrow. Maybe do some drift fishing in the sound later.

Hog fish?
Nice going!
I followed a tip today (regrettably) ran south and found lots more scattered weed and 85 degree water. Trolled north had a short strike and a knock down but came unglued.
The weed had been my demise this year.

Sorry for low quality pics, don’t want to use all our pic space!
Far left ar Black Sea bass, near left are some nice big white grunts, right side is a mix of chocolate chip and jolt head porgy.

7/18 trip
We got a new puppy yesterday. Supposed to be the youngest’s dog (9), and of course mom had to stay home with pup, but the 12 yo was free to fish with dad!
But he chose to stay home with new puppy. Insert eye roll here. He is forgiven though, he cleaned the boat for me while I cleaned fish!
Was a good day, 4 BSB, 1 ringtail, 4 choc chip porgy’s, and 8 good sized white grunts. Donated one roscoe jig to the sea gods.

Good going! AJ are always fun. It's looking to be a beautiful week. Hey Fishnfool were headed out of Masonboro Inlet Tuesday morning headed for the break or a good temp break. I think you were asking about pulling a dredge on THT. I pull one every time we go and usually double our fish count. Mahi just cant stand it they come up take a look and go right to the spread. Last time out we were fishing a weed line and another boat beside us wasn't catching and we were pulling them in as fast as we could. it makes a big difference in my opinion. Gatorman
Haha - I'm a total newbie, and I'm really feeling that way at present. Don't know squat about blue water fishing, and don't even know what you guys are *talking* about when you mention the likes of "pulling a dredge", THT, fishing a weed line, and that's just one man's post - LOL! As for me, I've got my first fishing boat** (2012 2660 CC, 2x150's) and I'm just happy getting on the ocean - still in sight of land. I'm on the Jersey Shore and my first run was from Manasquan Inlet around Sandy Hook to bring it to my home port. I had a run with the three competing wave cycles someone mentioned, or so it seemed. Anyway, my point it... keep up the entries, because it's very exciting for me to read, and I'm going to spend the rest of this season inshore fishing, (stripers till I haul out) and prep for some off shore runs next year, i.e. gear up with tackle, safety equipment, and information for a safe trip for some bigger game. 😊 So thanks guys, I appreciate your sharing very much! **Have 20 years on a 24 Ft. Sundancer which was great for the rivers and bay, and sleepovers, etc. but not so much for any real fishing....

Looking back at this thread.... 18 July was my last fishing trip?!? Ugh. Work clobbered all of Aug and half of sept. But I’m home the next 2.5 weeks. First goal is to put some venison in freezer. Balanced with some offshore fishing if the weather gets right! There’s a window coming, I can feel it.....

Well, 2 days didn’t see any deer. Fished offshore today, 4 or 5 false albacore, 1 king, and a sailfish. And a day on the water with my dad. Haven’t stocked the freezer as I’d hoped but a good week anyway. Sleeping in tomorrow, and voting!!
