Drove my friends SF 290 that has it AND digital throttles, boy were they both nice. The steering was so effortless. I could turn the wheel holding the suicide knob with 2 fingers.
Now I'm thinking about this as my next upgrade. Has anyone done the same?
I hear it is a relatively easy upgrade to do albeit a bit expensive.

Had the pleasure to have time running a brand new 35 SeaVee my friend took delivery of 2 weeks ago. All I could say is holy shit what a beast. We did get tuna but in my book the fish took 2nd place. My boat would fit inside it with room to spare.

I’m following this link for advice. I have auto pilot but my 2660 with twin 200 Zukes is difficult to steer to the left when under power and docking it is more of a chore than it should be. I’ve inspected the helm and all is good there so power steering is my next upgrade. I have a Simrad AP. Anyone add power steering with AP please share equipment needed and directions would be greatly appreciated

I have a single engine with Simrad AP44 and I am always assisting the autopilot when it needs to turn to port. Granted it takes a bit more effort to turn to port manually, but not significantly so. On my previous boat I had a Raymarine AP and never had an issue like with the Simrad. The Simrad works great when I head to a waypoint on the chartplotter, but if I set it to a heading it will always be off to starboard.

The power steering is great. You need to add it.

Boy you love to spend, God bless you. I'm not paying for all that fuel doing 200 mile tuna trips, so it's gotta go somewhere. Sspeaking of spending, don't you have a new boat to go buy?!

Pump ordered, install scheduled for 3rd week of September. Hope it provides the improvement you're expecting.
I had power steering on the Albemarle, but the 10,000 lb boat with two Volvos needed it. Only one of the two engines provided the power steering and it failed once while about 10 miles from the marina. A VERY long 10 miles that wore me out. Bad enough coming in on a single engine, but the loss of the power steering was worse. If my Sailfish was anything close to that I'd have power steering, but I'm happy without it.

Oh MY, it worked sweet! Buttery smooth, effortless steering. The steering feedback is the same no matter and lighter than when I would turn the motors just sitting at the dock. I could turn the wheel with a single finger in either direction just plowing along when it would normally require me to muscle it.
Because there is very little feedback it seems very sensitive to input but something I think I'll easily get use to.
Love it so far and just something that'll help with fatigue while boating.

Glad you're happy with it. Sounds like it was a good investment.

You add something like the seastar power assist unit or something else?
DIY or have it done?
I’m thinking a helm rebuild is needed this winter on mine, or just a new unit. Never miss a chance to upgrade!

Never miss a chance to upgrade! The Seastar assist pump. I had BOE Marine install it, it had to be tied into my AP pump, which made it only slightly more complicated, that and I dont have a power bleeder. I don't 'think's it is particularly difficult if you have some mechanical skills and power bleeder would certainly helpful. I don't think I could go back to a boat without now. Lol
