amazed i can type with left hand. rotator cuff surgery this morning and of coarse it was a bit more complicated than first thought (isn't it always?). i"ll save you the details with a pic of the screw being put in to hold the tendon onto my shoulder. hope this mess heals fast.

Oh man, that looks painful. You're supposed to schedule this stuff during the winter.
Heal up!

it was casting for specks in January that drove me to doctor. fishing was great, but second day i had to stop after 4 casts due to sharp pain with each cast. delays in appt dates, MRI schedule and operating room schedule pushed out operation to may. after op doc said mid june earliest possible for brace removal. ugh... maybe i can prove him wrong.
plan to get on boat with granddaughters when possible. one got virginia boat license last year and she"s got about 10-15 hours driving so far. the other granddaughter started class tonight. at least i should be able to get out on the water. they want to go next week and i'm going unless admiral ties me to recliner (tired of sitting already and it's only day 1!).
pain: nerve block hasn't worn off yet and just took 1st pain med. guess i'll find out about pain later. at least it will be nice to feel my fingers again.

Damn. That sucks but hopefully you’ll be able to get back to fishing soon and be pain free. Hang in there and follow the doctors orders. No casting until he gives the full release. Lol.

My friend that I offshore fish with is a doctor and just had the same procedure 2 months ago. They also use some type of pin to attach the rotator cuff to his shoulder he recovered amazingly fast so hang in there. You'll be back in action shortly.

That doesn't sound fun but at least the healing has now begun. Most important is to get better so you can cast and reel in at 100% for many seasons to come...don't rush it and learn the patience needed to run this like a marathon rather than a sprint. The end game result is what is most important!

I had both shoulders done. Most recent one was several yrs ago. Once that pain blocker wore off, oh boy. I couldn't use my arm for weeks. It was litterly a limb hanging there. Take it easy. Don't want to mess up that shoulder during healing process.

Hang in there Richard. Take it easy and follow the Dr’s orders and the Dr at home. Rehab is key to shoulder surgery. Follow there instructions and push through. Will be praying for you.

I had my rotator and labrum done a few years back(and other fun things they found once they got in there), the recovery is not fun but in the end so worth it. Make sure you do the PT exactly as they tell you, it is vital. I laughed the first day when the therapist asked me to lift a one pound weight, until I actually tried to do so! I know someone who did not do PT and he ended up in worse shape than before the surgery. Heal up fast!

All the best Rich... If you don't have one already, get yourself a good recliner to sleep in. Hang tough. This too will pass..... Pete

didn't know how common the surgery was until you guys have told me about yours or friends. luckily we'd ordered powered loveseat last year (received in march) to replace old recliner. guess i'll get better at sleeping as days go by. admiral insisting on sleeping down with me this week and she slept fine.
thanks all for the info, advice and prayers.

Good choice for your rehab. You will not be able to lie down in bed for a while. Don't be a hero take the pain meds for a week maybe two and then switch the aspirin. I didn't have to take the pain meds during the day while my arm was in the sling minimal pain but at night time oh boy hold on I had the pain meds and a few beers put me in a great place. Lol
