I'm having a survey done tomorrow on a 2016 275 DC, with twin Mercury 150 XL's. I'm looking for some compression numbers for comparison to what I've been given. Can anyone provide any insights? Here is what Marine Max has provided. SMLB-Sales-22091614570.pdf (85.46 KB)

I have the same boat in 2017 and Yamaha 200s clothing. If it goes through well on survey you will love the boat. I would ask the surveyor about the compression numbers...most you want to see each cylinder very close to each other in psi compression but the surveyor can advise better that I can. He may be able to do lab analysis on lubricants to give an idea about internal wear if that is a concern. Good luck!

Hire a Mercury mechanic to give the engines a once over if the motors are of concern.

Haven't seen the survey report yet, but everything went pretty well. This is the second time I've used this surveyor, he's a great guy - explains everything well and makes great suggestions.
A little bit of moisture in the hard top, the bedding was bad around the anchor light. The eisenglass curtains are shot, so I'd need to look into replacements for those, but they've never been replaced. A few other mentions, surveyor was a bit worried about, placement of the battery charger, its in the transom mounted quite low - is that standard? It still works thankfully, but he suggested I move it as it seems as though it could easily get wet. Aside from that, he suggested I redo some of the bedding as the 5200 has a pretty clear lifespan of about 4-5yrs, no major corrosion though. Typical hardtop support/powder coat issues, but that doesn't concern me, all cosmetic that can be worked through.
Engines have low hours, at full throttle and trimmed with four of us on board the boat hit about 38knts, plenty fast for me. Hopefully the survey comes back clean.

Mine is a 2018 and have had no charger problems to date. 38 knots WOT being sufficient is one thing, make sure your cruise numbers are numbers you can live with, they're a lot more important than WOT numbers. I haven't ridden on a 275, so take this with a grain of salt, but my initial impression was that 2x150 may be a bit underpowered. The 245 comes standard with a single 300, must be considerably lighter, and the single has half as much drag as twins. Good luck, hope it all works out for you!!

Is the boat in Brant Beach? I recently purchased a 245DC from them and the same weekend, a neighbor at the very end of the lagoons, brought home a 276DC. I can't offer much help with the survey specifics, but I wish you good luck and I'll see you on the water.

The boat is in Beach Haven, NJ. This is the third 275 I've ridden on with 150's and I can honestly say it doesn't feel underpowered, but then again I haven't ridden on one with 200's either. I'm not sure if it has a fuel flow meter on it, I meant to ask during the sea trial.

Check out Greatlakesskipper.com for eisenglass curtains. They sell sailfish OEM and I thought I remember seeing them on there for the 275. They also have some covers for as well. Congrats on the boat! I love my 245!! As for the battery charger, I recently had an issue where my lift failed (the bolt holding the motor to the piling failed and dropped the beam holding the stern up into the water). I found the boat with water at the swim platform and the entire splash well filled. The bilge was running and when I dropped the front beam to float the boat, the bilge ran for maybe 10 seconds. The inside of the bilge was very dry. Fortunately, I had just replaced that pump that went bad. But the batteries and the charger didn't get wat at all.

My 275 DC runs about 48 MPH (41.7 knots) WOT with twin 200 Yammies, and that is much faster than I normally run. The added HP is nice to have some punch when you need it or when heavy, but I think a 38 knot boat is more than adequate in most conditions. I run mine in the 25 to 30 MPH range most of the time and it seems very happy to do that all day long while getting 2.2 to 2.4 MPG.
My charger is in the same location. Not my favorite spot for it, but it is close to the batteries and seems to stay pretty dry there, never had much water there other than from a leaky freshwater shower hose once and also the freshwater tank overflow is put in that area so I have to watch to not overfill the tank.
Let me know if you find OEM curtains for your boat...something I've been considering for my boat too. I know greatlakes had a canvas cover set at one point that I didn't need but was considering while it was available, but I don't recall them having curtains.

Thanks for the info, I reached out to Great Lakes skipper.
Anyone here run their own radar cables?

I did on a 245DC so I'm not sure if the 275 is similar. Easy running down the hardtop cable trough although be careful as it's not smooth inside the trough. I tried for hours going down the starboard aft hardtop support and couldn't get it down. Ended up running it outside the support and put a hole near the galley to the starboard side cables and pulled it to the MFD. Put a plastic cable protector over the exposed cables and cable tied to the support. Not pretty, but it works and doesn't look too bad IMHO.
I know another one of our members pulled the hardtop to run the cable through as he had similar difficulty. Not sure if it would have helped in my case, but pre-run cable pull cords would have been nice.

I don't understand why Sailfish is powering their 27CC and 275DC's with 150's. Friends of mine that have boats like Edgewater, Southport, Robalo in this size class all have at least twin 225 to 250's on theirs. Is Sailfish just trying to save a buck here and sacrificing performance?? Heck, my 2380CC has a single 250 on it.

Anyone here run their own radar cables? The previous owner of my boat ran his own radar cable. Said it was a PAIN - lots of soap and water. Ran it back from the install point to the removeable plate near the GoPro mount. Then inside the tube towarad the starboard side and down the rear most support tube on the starboard side. He removed the bolster at the base to access the lines that come down. Said it took him nearly 3 hours if not more.

It's a simplistic calculator, but I come up with 378 as the max HP for a 275DC (26'x9').
I know people who go beyond the max HP listed, but insurance could be an issue when doing so.
