I asked this on another board, but hoping to get some advice here if anyone has it.
I am looking for where to install the autopilot pump and the hydraulic lines for my 2017 Sailfish 245DC. I have a Mercury Verado 300 that has Ultraflex power assisted steering. I initially thought this would be straight forward, but I can't make heads or tails between the two manuals. I did write to Uflex but have not heard from them yet.. The Garmin installation instructions show installing the 1.2 L pump (6) in the hydraulic lines (1) and (4) from the power assist (2) to the motor (8) . The picture shows a starboard and port line going into the power steering assist module as show in the picture below.
However, after looking at my boat this weekend, I have a different setup. My Power Assist Pump is in my bilge with a high pressure and a low pressure hose going directly to the helm and then the helm has a port and starboard steering lines going directly to the cylinder at the motor. Here are the relevant diagrams from Ultraflex manual along with the Autopilot note and a shot of my bilge:
The instructions for an Autopilot installation from Ultraflex are as follows:
So my questions are:
- Do I just add a T to the existing Port and Starboard lines from the Helm to the Steering Cylinder and one to the low pressure return?
- Where do I put the AP Pump? Do I put it in the bilge with the power assist pump? Or can I stick it in the console under the helm? The instructions say the AP has to be lower than the Power Assist Pump which is why I am thinking it needs to go in the bilge and I have to raise the Power Steering Assist Pump up.
I appreciate any help and answers the forum has on my questions. Or if anyone has a similar setup, how is their AP installed.
