Hello, Starting to kick some tires! Looking into a new Yamaha re-power. Currently have twin f-150s. Anyone out there with twin 250s? You like? Numbers? Are they to heavy? Looks like 225s are not that much lighter, which leads me to the new 200s seem very ideal. Anyone out there with that set up? look forward to any information. Thx Dan

Not a 2660 but I'm running twin 200 i4s on my 2360 and love these engines. Cruise is about 32 offshore load getting 2.5 to 2.6 mpg, top end around mid 50s.

Thx Dan I've been kicking the tires for a couple of years but between pricing shooting the roof, lack or availability combined with I recently put a shit ton of money into my F150's and they run great, I've put it on the back burner for now. F250's were a consideration, however after talking to my Yamaha tech he said they need to be mounted further apart than the F150's which would require drilling new mounting holes in the transom and filling/patching/painting the old. A thought that wasn't all that appealing to me. I also considered Mercs, which I could get in a 250 with the same mounting centering point but I'm not too sure I want take the Merc plunge. This brought me back to F200's which are not that far a leap from the F150s in terms of power and performance. On the plus side they'd be cheaper than 250's, I can use the same steering vs Merc and mounting holes are the same as the F150s. I'm probably a couple years out still so I reserve the right to change my mind.

I have twin F200s on my 275 DC which I think is the same hull you have albeit maybe a bit heavier with the galley and all. Boat performs well and I love the Yamaha quiet and good economy. My only addition if I were empowering would be some sharrow props which are now made for the Yammies. I think for a new motor those props make sense especially over the life of the motor.

What are your max RPMs?

With a clean bottom, nearly full fuel and water and 5 people on board I ran briefly at WOT a couple days ago. Hit 45 MPH at 5400 RPM. I may be slightly over propped but its hard to tell because that was a pretty full load and I expected a few RPM lower than peak. Most of my cruising is 25-35 MPH and within that range I do 2.1 to 2.4 MPG with typical loads of fuel people gear and ice/drinks.

Oh and I should add...400 total HP is the max rating from the factory for my boat.

Yeah, those are decent numbers. I’ll take anything over 2mpg loaded. I run real heavy, 4 guys, 6 man raft, full tank, shit ton of gear etc…. I used to turn almost 5900 rpm and top out at about 49mph, but those days are gone. Boat had some bad cavitation in chop so dropped the motors to the lowest hole. Runs much better but lost some top end. Can’t get it above 5300 anymore? Not sure why. Had VSTs done, compression was good? Idk…

I have twin F250s on my 2006 2660CC. It was ordered that way from the factory. The boat is a speed demon. Currently, I typically run at 45mph at 4500rpm, and get 1.9mpg. My WOT is at 5600 with my current props, which are 4-blade. I used to have 3-blade props, which were great for speed. With the 3-blade props I got WOT of 5900RPM and 63mph (25gallons of fuel with just my 10 year old son and me on the boat on a really flat day). With the 3-blade props I would get a lot of prop ventilation, especially in rough seas. The 4-blade work a lot better to my liking. With the F250s the stern of my boat does sit low in the water. My scuppers are typically at or below the water line. If I was going to repower, I would go with the Yamaha 200 with the integral steering. My friend just re-powered his son's scout with it, and the engine steering is awesome, the engine is super quiet, gets better mpg's than his old f200, and is lighter. Twin 200HP on a 2660 should be more than enough. Attachments:

Finfever21 what length shafts are the F200's and what props are you using? I have the 2360 with F115's and 4 blades and thinking of repowering eventually and torn between the F150's or F200's. I went with the 4 blades on my F115's which elinminated the cavitation issues ay just about all RPMs.

If open to considering merc, V6 3.4L power-weight is well matched with the 2660

Yes! I'd be lying if I said this didn't play into my decision. I love the white color. All things being considered, leaning towards the 200's. Going to start the homework for price and availability.
