I have a boat with no name. My first boat was named "Mal di Mare". There aren't many people around here who speak fluent Italian, but they generally know "mal" and "mare", so they think it is something based on the words 'bad of sea'. They usually ask, does that mean like 'bad-ass-of-the-sea' or maybe 'evil seas' or something tough along those lines. They usually got a little laugh when I tell them that it means "sea sickness". I liked that name. But, that boat is no longer mine and I am trying to find a new name for a new boat. I'm coming up with nothing. How did you guys come up with your boat names?

100% Italian here but never learned the language. My parents only spoke it when they didn't want us to know what they were talking about.😡 Now the boats name came from my cousin on the way home when I purchased the boat. He said because I'm such a pain in the ass with the way I keep everything I own the perfect name would be Fanatic. So it stuck but I changed the spelling to finatic.

Some name their boat based on career field, experiences, family heritage etc. provide a little info and you’ll be surprised at the many creative names and play on words this group will share.
When I owned my orange sailfish my fishing buddy got a kick out of calling it Orangasm

Growing up my dad had about 5 boats over the years, none named. I've had at least as many that weren't named and now on third that is named. It was Admiral's turn to name so she picked "GK's Paradise" with GK being grandkids. Turned out to be an accurate name. They all love going out on the boat. A couple of them go so often they've become proficient in fishing and got their boating license so they can drive the boat.

Remember to pee in the bilge when you name the boat.

Okay so my first Sailfish I called her Daddy's Girl (no names on any of my boats). We had 2 young boys at the time, we were hoping for a girl as our second, naturally we love our boys just the same, but no girl so she was my defacto girl. My wife seemed to express some jealousy over how much time I was spending on/with my little girl. Next/current boat, I call her Daddy's Girl Too to not only pay homage to Daddy's Girl as well as a veiled attempt to acknowledge my wife is my girl too (also). And still no girls, now we have 3 boys...

Current boat Outta D Blue because it’s blue and because I saw it advertised on the web in Maine and called about it out of the blue one day.
Boat before this one was Sea Dick Go. Friend of mine named it and it stuck.

I have seen a lot of boats named after professions. My favorite was Guns and Drugs. Turns out he owns a pharmacy and a gun shop, but such a great name. For me, the boat is kind of an escape from the grind, so I'm leaning away from that. The most important things for me, in order, are simple: Christ, family, country. My other hobbies include music. I play the double bass and accordion. I've played in orchestras, salsa groups, cover groups, show bands, tango, Neapolitan song, originals etc. Big fan of country music. I can't think of any musical references that I love. I typically like ironic names like My Last Boat #2. Or something like that.
I might just stop thinking for a bit and see if anything just happens to pop up. It seems like there are a lot of great names that weren't forced, but rather just happened.

Hmm. Is it a virgin that has to pee in the bilge? I've read a lot about boat naming rituals. Pretty intense. I'll probably skip a few steps...

I never learned to speak it that well either. Just enough to speak to my family when we visited Naples and Rome. I would have loved to have spent more time learning foreign languages, but I think I started too late in life. I was pretty good at Spanish when I had a group of people that I could speak with, but it' starting to fade now that I barely use it anymore.

on about our 3rd date my future wife said to me, going out with you is always an adventure.....
Since then we've weaved adventure into lot's of business names, rental properties, and of course boats, when I had a mako it was mako Adventure, now it's Sailfish Adventure.
No one peed in the bilge (as far as I know!)

I bought mine new but wasn't aware about pissing in the bilge. Maybe tomorrow I'll give it a shot. LMAO.

Just thinking about pissing in the bilge makes me want to give my boat a good washdown.
