Season is just starting for myself.
I’m hoping now between the boys deer and this one we have freezer meat. And any others make into snak-stix, sausage etc.

Love the muzzleloader seasons, easy way to double your gun hunting opportunities, an until past year we were a shotgun only state here in DE other than muzzleloader. I have been using them exclusively for past 10 years, the modern setups are super reliable, an extremely accurate, Also much more manageable recoil than a rifled slug in scoped shotgun.

I'm not much a gun guy just a custom Mossberg shot gun that holds nine shots with a pistol grip handle for home security. My friend worked their years ago like 35 years ago he made the gun for me. When I think of a muzzleloader I think of the civil war style gun, pack it with powder and led and fire. Are they still loaded that way.

Yes, but all the components have been modernized, meet the requirements of loading from muzzle, but inproved to function with modern reliability, and accuracy. I have killed deer at almost 200 yds with mine, an there are plenty taking accuracies to 400yds mostly in competition shooting . Whole little nitch , but most states have specific extra seasons, an again here we can use muzzleloader instead of shotgun, I much prefer to do so. Make your shot count. But much better ballistics from 50 cal than shotgun.

I just put a deposit down on Llew setter today. Plan to take up pheasant and quail hunting again. Going to introduce my kids to it.

Grew up pheasant hunting, every year I say I’m going to give it a try down here in NC. Only one place with a self sustaining population down here and you need a boat to get there. Makes it a bit of an adventure. Add tides and skinny water and it’s not just grab the gun and dog and go! But I think I have a plan....

When I was old enough, my dad took me along with my brother to the MD/PA border to hunt for wild birds. The population got pretty depleted because they started spraying the corn crops for insects earlier and it softened the egg shells eventually kills the chicks inside. We still had a blast, rabbits and qual were bonuses. We'd just pull up to corn fields and hunt them if they weren't posted. Sometimes we'd knock on the door of a farmhouse of a property that was posted and ask permission. My dads friend Me Maybee, he was an older guy had a way with the women that answered the door, they always let us hunt.
I'd like to try Iowa before I die.

When I was young we had quail, but the seem extinct now, certainly not huntable numbers. I waterfowl hunted hard up to 3 years ago, when my retriever died, heart cancer, had a picture of her an Owen make it to our states hunting guide. I’d love to get puppy, but that’s a big commitment, not quite ready for it now.

Thanks.... that's our boy the "Dude". He's a 4.5 year old Epagneul Breton. Sweet dog, a great companion and pretty birdy on woodcock, partridge and stocked pheasants. He's also the first mate on the boat all season as well.
