Okay. In Florida maintenance is an ongoing process. Fix it as it breaks and do annual maintenance in November and December because by February/March we need to be ready to fish. But today I did replace my horn and updated my Navionics card. Also created a spreadsheet with all maintenance since 2018. Total on upgrades and maintenance was 10 large. So, I’m never going through that process again. From now on I’ll just list the repairs and dates of repairs. Leaving the overall cost of the books.…just like the bookies. And I sure as shit ain’t doing the same for fishing gear and tackle.

I seem to always buy the boat with almost nothing but basics and then add everything later.

OK Glen, it's a nice sunny day, are you going to tackle the PCV's today?

Today’s project.... These cowling flanges have a tendency to not only clog but also corrode rendering them useless. Replaced the two that corroded through on my port cowling. Did one on my starboard last year. Good as new and now my cowling can drain! Sorry Glen!

Just finished trailer maintence, found 1 bad rear seal, so changed seals and bearings for that hub, other 3 just took apart inspected and repacked. Replaced 2 bad overhead courtesy lights in boat and checked function of all switches, screens, pumps, batteries and see I'm 15 hours short of 300 hr engine maintence. Will be putting in this Friday. (last week in a none Sailfish FL boat- replaced power pole hydraulic cylinder and fixed 2 light switches, drilled new holes in aluminum top support at deck that pulled-epoxied and boat has exactly on 400 hrs - so next trip will be 100 hr maintence).

Put a coat of wax on the old girl this weekend. Had to compound the gunnels first. I’m waiting on a new trim tab actuator to come in for next weekend’s project. I will service motors in a couple months as I’m not yet at 100 hours.

I completed my second 100 hour service with the exception of the internal fuel filter. I decided to break down and order the wrench specifically for the idiotic Yamaha design of their internal fuel filters. Last time I had to remove the entire assembly and put it in the freezer to get it off, hoping the proper wrench will make it removeable without going through that again.

The wrench works amazingly well, well worth it! It also helps to turn the filter the right way.

Fully agree the placement and necessary tool do seem like a way to make a few extra dollars, but it is like fishnfool said "well worth it". I'm convinced engineers design engines with maintenance in mind, but then before they put it out to market, sales gets to make their 'improvements'.

Man, I have a lot to learn. I've decided to have someone else do the work for a few years until I really feel comfortable doing it myself. The good news is that there is at least one boat in almost every driveway in the neighborhood. Any time I walk outside with a screw driver, I have a group of guys come over to check out what I'm working on. I love it there. I'm sure I'll have a lot of advise and help when I decide it's time to work on the boat myself. Until then, I'm just counting down the days....We are in the water April 29th.
