Yep! Having owned a dark hull for 8 yrs before throwing in the towel and painting it and my gelcoat was still in great shape, just got tired of the upkeep. A wet sand will will last longer but it's no silver bullet. The gelcoat will will begin to chalk again esp if you're not hauling it out once or twice a year to stay on top of it - maintenance polish/wax. Yup... never again.... white all the way! S They've been doing this for a while (well not hull bottoms) but Prop Speed makes a product that is applied to running gear that does the same thing. Prop Speed also sells a similar product for through transducers and UW lights. It's expensive too. I use it on my B175 and so far it works. I reapply every year. I use the same product on my UW lights since I figured the two products can't be that different, probably the same shit

Has anyone heard of or tried an ultrasonic marine growth inhibitor rather than paint? This is relatively new and works by creating high frequency vibrations on your hull that prevent marine growth from sticking. I'd be interested if I didn't have my boat out of the water on a lift...and for anyone that ties up to a slip and has access to shore power to keep it going when unattended, this seems more cost effective than annual painting. www.pacificboatsco.com/best-solution-charity

Been working on the 270 cc pretty steady since bringing it home a week and a half ago. Put a new Airmar B164 thru hull in ( what a pain, not as young as I used to be). I also installed a new compass. Canvas guy came over the house today and measured up for new 3 piece curtains. He said he will have it ready by the time we leave for NC on May 2nd ( fingers crossed). New water separators installed. Replaced the 3 transom underwater lights. Changed the lower unit gear lube and pulled the lowers and and put new water pumps in. Put two new Solas Rubex HR4 blade props on too. Put three (3) new 27 series marine batteries in. Cleaned and sprayed all electrical connections. Removed the head and capped of the lines ( no need for it, put it in a box for the next owner if they want it) Replaced the remote fill fitting and hose on the hydraulic steering. Will be re-wring the battery charger leads tomorrow ( looking a little crusty). Ordered a new flush mount holder to add to the transom. Also ordered a new Rule 2000 gph bilge pump to replace the 1100 gph that's in there now. Ordered new T-stats . Also, have new seal caps and grommets ordered to replace the dry rotted ones on the lower cowlings. Lots of work , but just love working on my boats. Can't wait to get done and get her to Hatteras. I really need one of my wife's fresh tuna salad sandwich's grilled on sourdough with baby swiss, a true culinary delight!

Well done captain!
I have to laugh at the quote of the day..."what a pain, not as young as I used to be...". Welcome to the club buddy!

Yea, if I gotta replace or work on the transducer again, I'm gonna find me a basketball player that wants to make a buck or two. You know the type, one of those guys that can scratch his knees without bending over, Because that's what you need to work in that bilge Yes, went with the 14.25 x 17 p Solas Rubex HR4's. Supposed to be the go to set up, we will see.

I always wondered how they would perform on our hull. I have Rev 4s but mostly use Reliance 3 blades. The 4 blades slow me down too much. WI'll be intered to hear how much top speed you lose.

I'm looking forward to finding out as well. I have video of the dealer running the boat in freshwater topping out at 49 mph (gps) right before we picked it up with the 3 blade reliance. Boats run a little faster in saltwater ( 1 to 2 % do to higher buoyancy). With that being said, if I loose a couple miles and can still run 45 to 47 in salt, I think I'd be happy. I'm going to take the Reliance with me just in case.

So I'm remiss to share this here but here goes... Dropped her in this afternoon and the first thing I do before unloading her is to start the motors to make sure the fire up. Well started the starboard good although I got that damn low oil pressure warning which went away after shutting off the motor and restarting. Started the poet motor and it fired right up. Although I noticed a slightly different sound, thought that the mid exhaust was being muffled by the water since she was in stern stuffed on the trailer. I slid her back off the trailer, my wife pulls away trailer in tow. I start idling out and noticed that port motor where the idle sound rough, in fact the motor was vibrating a bit. I gave it a little gas and it was boggy feeling. So I shut that motor down and idled to my home port some 4 miles away. It was a nice day anyhow. I got to thinking it sounded and felt like my motor was missing a cylinder. Maybe a bad plug??? I was going to pull the closing when I got home and check plugs. Then I went through the list of crap I worked in my head and so I thought maybe I didn't put a plug wire on good when I was inspecting the block annodes - fingers crossed it was that simple. Got home and got the boat tied off. I pulled the cowling to check spark plug wires and what do I see??? A spark plug wite hanging there on the bottom cylinder. Well shit, popped it back on she fired right up smooth as silk and went out on a good shakedown cruise. I blamed lapse on the forum since I was so busy taking pics of my annodes for the forum I must've gotten distracted. Ok Glen let's here it!
